Job Description and Duties
Will consider a Transportation Planner.
Under the direction of the Systems Planning and Goods Movement Office Chief, a Senior Transportation Planner, the incumbent carries out various assignments with primary responsibility to document existing conditions and determine future State highway system needs. In coordination with other System Planning staff, conducts research and compiles data for the preparation of System Planning documents. The incumbent in this position also prepares spreadsheets, maintains a database in support of System Planning activities and special planning projects, creates focused lists and presentations.
The position requires a motivated individual with a desire to work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment with individual responsibilities for internal client deliverables and schedules.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Associate Transportation Planner exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions
Position is located in Stockton, San Joaquin County. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
While at their base of operation, employees will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. Employee may also be required to travel for special assignments, meetings or route reviews and may be exposed to ambient noise and weather conditions.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs.
Desirable Qualifications
Intermediate to advanced ability using Microsoft Office programs, communication, analysis, and documentation skills are essential. Previous transportation planning experience with traffic analysis, database, ArcGIS mapping, and technical report production experience are highly desirable.
