Job Description and Duties
Under the direction of a Senior Transportation Engineer, the Transportation Engineer Civil serves as a technical expert in the field of asphalt binder and Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) testing within the Office of Central Laboratory (OCL), Asphalt Binder & HMA Branch. The Transportation Engineer Civil will be responsible for managing the Caltrans' Asphalt Supplier Certification Program and Job Mix Formula Prequalification Program, participating in the Pavement & Materials Partnering Committee (PMPC) working groups to develop and update specifications and test methods related to asphalt pavements, and serves as the Quality Manager for the Asphalt Binder and HMA Laboratories. The incumbent ensures the laboratories' accreditation from AASHTO resource and Independent Assurance remain in good standing, is responsible for updating quality manuals and procedures, and also assists in managing new and existing Authorized Materials Lists (AMLs) of products used in asphalt pavements.
Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Civil in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility.
