The Division of Engineering Services (DES), Materials Engineering and Testing Services (METS) is looking to hire Transportation Engineers Civil (TE Civil) in the Office of Central Laboratory (OCL).
The Transportation Engineer Civil (TE-Civil) works independently and/or as part of a team to support METS' quality assurance program's efforts as they pertain to aggregate, concrete, structural, chemical and asphalt related materials used in the state transportation system. Responsibilities of the TE-Civil may include supporting the development and administration of the Lab’s Prequalification Programs, Authorized Material Lists (AMLs), Quality Management System (QMS), and maintaining its respective AASHTO, CCRL, A2LA, and/or ISO 17025 and Independent Assurance accreditation. The TE-Civil may be required to participate in committees, develop and maintain California Test Methods, and provide expert advice concerning materials related quality assurance issues.
This position may require travel to the various districts, materials suppliers, companies, and other locations related to METS' quality assurance program.
As part of your employment with the Division of Engineering Services (DES), there is a mandatory TE-Civil Professional Development Rotation Program that applies to all permanent full-time TE Civils hired after January 1, 2017. Temporary relocation more than 50 miles from your permanent unit may be necessary for rotation assignments.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineer (Civil) Exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Civil in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility.
