The role of the Senior Risk Assessment Scientist is to strengthen and expand MEMS technical expertise in the area of ecological risk assessment including aquatic and ecotoxicology project components. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure quality and delivery of ecological risk assessment services to MEMS clients. The position is primarily office-based in a demanding consultative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Be responsible, as appropriate in conjunction with Project Managers, for the quality and timeline delivery of technical reports required to service clients.
- Ensure ecological risk assessment practice is current with internal and external policies.
- Lead complex risk assessment projects, where ecological risk is the focus.
- Develop technical resources and utilize training to improve ecological risk assessment practice, including maintaining Quality Management System documentation.
- Promote MEMS externally in regard to technical advancement.
- Provide technical mentorship of ecological risk assessment staff.
- Guide the collection and reporting of biological data into toxicity and function-based lines of evidence.
- Develop, manage and lead water-quality and ecotoxicology components of projects.
- Prepare risk management and environmental monitoring plans to evaluate the effectiveness of exposure mitigation.
- Lead regulatory and stakeholder consensus building in support of moving files to regulatory closure.
- Develop and support others in the development of appropriate and clear conceptual site models for contaminated sites and environmental impact assessments.
- Communicate and promote state-of-science knowledge to inform data collection and approach development.
- Prepare and/or review scientific background documents in support of regulatory and risk assessment initiatives.
- Mentoring and career development of risk assessment project staff, both within the Human and Ecological Health discipline and those involved in aquatic data collection and reporting.
- Conduct senior review of technical reports.
- Provide technical support as needed to other Millennium disciplines including hydrogeology, site assessment and remediation
What you bring
- A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in environmental site assessment, remediation and risk assessment, preferably in a consulting environment.
- A very strong understanding of the technical and regulatory requirements across Western and Northern Canada with respect to ecological risk assessment.
- Experience successfully managing and maintaining client relationships.
- Knowledge and experience with relevant provincial legislation and familiarity with the environmental site assessment process is a requirement.
- Eligibility for membership in a relevant professional organization is required,
- Must be able to meet the requirements of site access as dictated by our clients, this may include pre-access drug, alcohol and fitness testing, and
- possess a valid, non-GDL Class 5 Drivers license.
