Working as an Environmental Scientist/Project and Portfolio Manager in the Brownfield & Assessment Service Group providing environmental site assessment (ESA), remediation and re-development services for clients throughout Canada. This position focuses on the growth of new and recurring business for the Service Group, mentorship and development of high-performing client team(s) and execution of excellent project management services. The incumbent establishes strong relationships with existing and new clients and utilizes strong business acumen to recognize and develop business opportunities that align with MEMS’ Business Plan. The incumbent will build on MEMS experienced and technically strong teams to successfully execute moderately complex to complex work plans. This incumbent can manage multiple work scopes or projects with various project managers in alignment with MEMS’ overall corporate strategy. The position is primarily office-based in a demanding consultative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Growth
- Contributing, implementing and maintaining client business growth plans, creating the conditions that result in long-term repeat business;
- Communicating client intel to Management/Executive and work to develop appropriate responses; and
- Working with the Business Development team by facilitating opportunities for networking, meeting with potential clients and providing client intelligence and technical resources to support business development activities.
- Client Portfolio and Project Management
- Managing a large portfolio (>50) of client(s) sites of intermediate to high complexity including distribution to, leadership of and oversight of client project management and scope execution teams;
- Apply appropriate project and portfolio management techniques to execute all aspects of the project in accordance with the contract and ensuring quality of processes and deliverables; and
- Ensure MEMS, client and legislative Health & Safety requirements are understood, implemented and monitored for consistent application by the client team.
- Technical Engagement
- Synthesize published and site specific information to present a concise interpretation of the site conditions and develop a conceptual site model to assist in understanding and communicating key site issues;
- Conducting site specific risk assessments and developing risk-based remedial objectives for contaminated sites of medium to high complexity with low to moderate senior input required.
- Primary authorship role in completion of risk assessment projects for complex sites;
- Primary development of appropriate risk-based site management strategies with limited input from senior risk assessment staff; and
- Progression to a reviewer role of project deliverables for low to moderately complex Sites.
- Mentorship
- Identify competency gaps within the service group and communicate these effectively to the Service Group Director;
- Contribute to the development and execution of mentorship and competency training programs; and
- Mentorship, supervision and promotion of career development for all staff.
What you bring
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in environmental site assessment and remediation, preferably in a consulting environment.
- Experience successfully managing and maintaining client relationships.
- Must have previous experience managing projects as a prime contractor
- Knowledge and experience with relevant provincial legislation and familiarity with the environmental site assessment process is a requirement.
- Eligibility for membership in a relevant professional organization is required,
- Must be able to meet the requirements of site access as dictated by our clients, this may include pre-access drug, alcohol and fitness testing, and
- Possess a valid, non-GDL Class 5 Drivers license.
