Key functions include:
- Recording capital asset additions, transfers and disposals in the fixed asset system.
- Reconciling, tracking and reporting actual spend on capital work in progress to assist the Asset Management team and Operations team forecasting activities.
- Componentizing projects at completion of construction.
- Developing and implementing standard operational and capital reporting.
- Assisting with the annual budget process and monthly forecasting.
- Preparing accruals and reconciliations at period ends.
- Ensuring compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and external audits.
- Establishing strong relationships with operations field personnel, ensuring collection of accurate and timely information.
- Participating in monthly CapEx and Operational meetings.
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual supporting working papers for fixed assets and operational expenses.
- Assisting with interim and annual audit work with external auditors.
- Creating and maintaining documentation for operational accounting processes and policies.
- Identifying control weaknesses and recommending improvements
- Liaising with other functional groups on accounting matters as required
- Upholding and promoting BluEarth’s core values.
- Other tasks and duties as required.
As the Company continues to grow, the accountabilities and tasks of the Fixed Asset & Operational Reporting Accountant may change.
Education
- Minimum of accounting degree is required and recognized Canadian accounting designation (CPA) an asset.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of recent accounting experience in industry or public practice.
- Experience in journal entry preparation is required.
- Experience with fixed asset accounting is required.
- Experience building and maintaining operational reports is an asset.
- Experience working within a fast-paced, complex, multiple-entity environment is critical.
Personal Characteristics & Skills
- Working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), especially IAS 16 Property, Plant and Equipment, and good understanding of financial processes.
- Strong working knowledge of NetSuite or similar accounting software.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and excellent data entry skills.
- Highly detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to establish rapport across other functional teams
- Excellent critical thinking skills with the ability to identify and solve problems.
