Position OverviewValue Driven Solutions (VDS) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Battery Root Cause and Materials Analysis Engineer to work on cutting-edge battery technologies across a range of industries. As a member of our Root Cause Analysis (RCA) team, you will tackle complex technical challenges and play a pivotal role in optimizing battery performance for our clients. This remote role will allow you to work nationwide with a diverse team of experts committed to delivering innovative solutions in battery technology.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct detailed root cause analysis of battery failure modes across a variety of battery technologies, focusing on electrochemical and physical characterization to determine performance disparities between cells.
- Perform in-depth battery failure analysis and facilitate corrective actions through material characterization and electrochemical testing.
- Develop and implement methodologies to screen and evaluate electrolyte materials to enhance battery performance.
- Design and execute structured experiments, analyze data from electrochemical characterization, and interpret results to drive improvements in electrolyte properties.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide technical expertise to address battery-related issues and optimize overall performance.
- Train and guide technicians in high-standard procedures for battery characterization and root cause analysis.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives and long-term planning to continuously advance VDS’s battery technology solutions.
What You’ll Bring- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Hands-on experience with lithium-ion battery teardown and component characterization using techniques such as XRD, SEM/EDS, FIB, and sample preparation.
- Expertise in battery materials, interfaces, electrolytes, and electrochemistry, with a focus on failure analysis and process improvement.
- Proficiency with statistical analysis and problem-solving methodologies, including DOE, ANOVA, FMEA, RCA, and Fishbone analysis.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to effectively present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Attention to detail, with a proven ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications- MS or higher degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in lithium-ion battery research, electrolyte development, or root cause analysis.
- Strong knowledge of electrochemical techniques for battery diagnostics (CV, EIS, GITT, PITT).
- Project management experience, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
