Job Description Summary
Gas Turbine Project Engineer provides technical project management, technical direction and coordination of engineering activities for all assigned Gas Turbine projects. The Project Engineer functions as the technical liaison with the customer and their Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) representatives to ensure that the supplied design documentation and equipment fully complies with the contract requirements. The GT PE makes decisions and inputs to complex problems and opportunities, which can affect other activities, groups and areas, including the customer. The GTPE is also responsible for managing the Engineering schedule and budget for the assigned projects. As Technical Leader, this person will be responsible to work on complex & critical issues to support peers on projects in the region, provide operational leadership, work collaboratively with other engineering functions to drive systematic improvements in work scope/process.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
● Provides the technical interface for Gas turbine and support systems to customers and/or their assigned EPC including support at design meetings and other information requests, while maintaining a high level of business acumen.
● Involves coordination with/across the Project Management, other project functions, engineering disciplines, product lines, commercial operations (as applicable), architectural/Engineering Service providers, Partners etc.,
● Is responsible for technical project management, technical direction, and coordination of related engineering activities, ensuring deliverables on time, on quality and compliant with GE Vernova Way, customer contract requirements, Life Saving Rules and EHS standards allowing safe construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance.
● Is responsible for the implementation of the project strategy, manages engineering budget, monitors costs, drives productivity, and communicates EAC’s (estimates at completion).
● Leads technical issue resolution to the satisfaction of internal and external Customers.
● Analyze contract documents and requirements on assigned projects and facilitate the design, manufacturing & sourcing functions to ensure all engineering deliverables are fulfilled.
● Support GT TL for contract reviews, risk management, KPI and Daily management activities.
●Based on the review, identifies the need for additional design review or support from New Product Introduction (NPI).
● Demonstrates boundaries behavior with ONE TEAM mindset, solving issues / problem collaboratively.
●Evaluate design, financial and schedule impact of changes to contract technical and/or scope requirements.
● Support creation of schedule, monitor and facilitate on time delivery of hardware and software items.
● Reviews the TCP (Transactional Compliance Plan) and ensures applicable regulatory compliance requirements are communicated to his/ her team.
●Coordinates with Project Quality Manager and Compliance Project Engineer and Design Engineering as needed to ensure scope compliance.
●Attends and contributes to technical or Project Management meetings with the Customer and/ or the project team, TKP-Partners and/or design representatives (A/E's).
● Operates with ITR mindset, collaborating with application engineering early to enable de-risking and proper costing of technical requirements.
● Support R2/R3 ERRM as and when needed.
● Contributes to the preparation of reports and other presentations required for Customer or internal communication.
● Leads regular coordination meetings with the team and ensure smooth communication,
●Ensures follow up and timely response on technical issues and agreements, internally and Externally.
● Performs technical risk assessment and input to the centralized project risk and opportunity Management.
● Provide technical mentoring and guidance to peers to support them on critical complex Issues.
● Drive systematic improvement to GT processes while collaborating with cross-functional team in order to bring productivity,
●Build Lean culture into team by leading continuous improvement ideas and influencing others.
●Actively support GE productivity and quality initiatives.
●Ability and willingness to travel, domestically and internationally, as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university (Mechanical or Thermal Engineering - preferred).
- Strong experience (15 years and more) in managing engineering activities in an EPC project (preferable combined cycle plants) or equivalent customer facing roles.
- Required Leadership values: Team orientation, customer focus, organization, communication skills (written & verbal), problem solving, LEAN mindset.
- Proficiency in the following Microsoft Office tools: Excel, Word, and Power Point.
- Ability and willingness to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Ability and willingness to travel (~10%, as required).
Desired Characteristics
- Advanced Degree in Engineering from an accredited College or University
- Knowledge of project management tool & processes and skills to manage risks
- Understanding of Technical Regulations & Standards fundamentals
- Ability to influence and gain commitment at all levels of the organization
- Strong business acumen coupled with technical knowledge (field and factory)
- Knowledgeable of power plants, controls and steam turbine support equipment
- Familiarity with GTCC PLM to manage various engineering activities like schedule, BOM, change management etc.
