Materials and Processes Engineering Department from GE Vernova Gas Turbine Engineering & Sciences COE, Bangalore, India is seeking a Lead Materials Engineer for qualifying suppliers in the region for Gas Turbine Materials. The lead engineer will also have responsibility to work on gas turbine materials characterization.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Design Engineering and Supplier Quality teams and qualify suppliers in India (as per GE Vernova quality requirements) and best cost countries for Gas Turbine components as a part of the Near Shore Diversification (NSD) process.
- Travel to suppliers for technical audits and assess them for manufacturing new parts for GE Vernova.
- Follow all safety (EHS) protocols and raise concerns if any at supplier’s place.
- Follow Safety – Quality – Delivery – Cost (SQDC) approach in that order, while working on supplier qualifications.
- Develop suppliers in the region to meet GE specification requirements.
- Brainstorm with engineering, sourcing & commercial teams to propose new parts/suppliers in the region that can lead to potential savings compared to existing suppliers in high-cost countries.
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.
- Work with global counterparts in the USA and other countries to gain expertise in developing manufacturing process skills.
- Perform material analysis on materials used in gas turbines (steels and nickel-base alloys)
- Help and provide necessary support to resolve technical issues / problems during project execution.
- Work effectively within cross-functional engineering and global Research teams.
- Document technical data generated consistent with MPE policies and procedures.
- Present work in technical reviews/forums to controlled title holders (CTH) and other stake holders.
Required Qualifications
- M.S/M. Tech in materials science and engineering/other relevant engineering with emphasis on materials manufacturing and materials characterization.
- Minimum 10 years of technical experience in relevant field. Should be familiar with manufacturing processes such as steel making, forgings, and casting and experienced in qualifying suppliers for critical components.
- Knowledge on supplier manufacturing process plan (mpp) document.
- Familiar with ASTM/AMS /ASME and other industrial grades of materials.
- Experience in reviewing material specifications and updating specs based on need.
- Experience in using material characterization tools and equipment such as optical microscope, Keyence microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope. Experience with using hardness and micro-hardness testers.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Knowledge of ISO standards & processes on quality.
Desired Characteristics
- Experience in working in a manufacturing company in the areas of raw material/forging/castings/welding.
- Experience in qualifying Gas Turbine component suppliers.
- Welding, NDT (minimum level 2) certifications and Painting (NACE certification). Experience in reviewing supplier’s welding books and NDT facilities audits.
- Interpretation of engineering drawings.
- Knowledge on physical metallurgy and mechanical behavior of steels and Nickel-based alloys.
