We are currently seeking an experienced Sr. Reliability Engineer (HV Battery & Cells) to work for our Powertrain Reliability team. This role follows the reliability lifecycle of HV Battery & Cells from concept to design, development, manufacturing, and field operation to design-in, confirm, and grow exceptional reliability at every stage. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude, and approaches work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.
The Role:
• Analyze usage and environmental conditions, and define reliability requirements and targets for Battery Systems, sub-assemblies, and components.
• Specify and review design verification test plans and ensure it is comprehensive in bringing out environmental stress weakness in design/process and ensure Lucid’s powertrain system meets lifetime reliability metrics
• Statistically analyze warranty and test data to derive system, sub-system reliability using JMP, Weibull, Minitab and establish reliability targets for Lucid Powertrain systems
• Quantify risks and guide design and cross-functional teams to improve reliability
• Facilitate failure analysis to understand root cause and drive resolution
• Research failure mechanisms and apply them to test methods to represent field behaviors
• Correlate test to field failures and identify any shortcomings in test specs
• Answer complex questions on fleet usage and behavior to enable proactive health monitoring, grow reliability, and minimize field failures.
• Be a strong and vocal proponent of reliability in every phase of product development
Qualifications:
• Good understanding of high-voltage battery failure modes and effects.
• High level of mathematical and data analysis capabilities.
• Experience working with high-voltage, high current systems (power supplies, batteries, etc.)
• Understanding of applied statistics and reliability statistics (Weibull distribution, Maximum Likelihood Estimation, Bayesian methods, Monte Carlo analysis, etc.)
• Hands on experience for testing equipment and methods
• Excellent communication skills and team-oriented attitude
• Comfortable with initiating and taking ownership of projects
• Flexibility to work in a fast-paced startup environment with frequent prioritization adjustments
Advantageous:
• 3+ years of reliability engineering experience in the Battery field.
• Deep understanding of high-voltage battery technology, processes, and failure physics
• Proven track record of driving resolution on cell, module, and pack level failures
• Experience with Grafana and Tableau
• Experience with Atlassian, Jira and Confluence
• Capable of performing teardowns and postmortem analysis for EV batteries at module and pack level, demonstrating a critical thinking approach
• A history of working independently with limited oversight or input once a base understanding has been established
• Prior experience with providing guidance on service and remanufacture strategy from a reliability perspective
Education:
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, or equivalent (Master’s degree or PhD preferred)
