Intern, Battery Algorithm Engineer, Summer 2025
Location: Newark, CA
We are currently seeking a Battery Software Algorithm Engineering intern. This position requires an experienced student with a basic understanding of battery systems and controls software. As well as a passion for EVs. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly, and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
· Work in a dynamic, cross-functional team to advance our cutting-edge battery management features
· Contribute to our world-acclaimed battery product for mass-market passenger vehicles and energy products
· Collect and review laboratory and fleet data to support the development and quality assessment of high-quality battery controls and algorithms to ensure safety and performance of vehicle battery packs in real time
· Develop/improve advanced robust battery algorithms and models such as state of charge, state of energy, state of health to optimize vehicle performance and customer experience
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as controls, battery cells, embedded software, system engineering, vehicle integration teams to define requirements and perform integration testing
· Support the Battery Software department with additional duties/tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
· Knowledge of battery chemistries such as LFP and NMC
· Experience with battery management systems and EV powertrain
· Experienced with model-based software design and development tools
· Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++
Education:
· Field(s)of study: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
· Will consider undergrads Junior level or above Pursuing Bachelor’s or master's degree
· Proof of enrollment in current or into next program (MS, PhD)
Nice to have:
· Knowledge of vehicle controls such as motor, onboard charger, and thermal systems
· Knowledge of electrochemistry and battery modeling
· Knowledge of automotive communication protocols such as Automotive Ethernet and CAN
· Working knowledge of AUTOSAR
Program Information:
· Timing: May- August, or June-September pending class schedules.
· Duration of Internship: Our internship program is 12 weeks; the end date is flexible based on individual needs.
· Work Location & Environment: This position will be in Newark, CA, and is fully in-person. You must be prepared to start onsite for your first day of employment. The working environment will be a mix of lab & office work.
· Compensation: Student compensation is based on location and current degree level, non-negotiable ranging from $48 to $66.
· Relocation: May be provided on a case to case basis.
· Housing/Transportation: You must provide your own living arrangements and transportation in the local area.
· Background Check: All offers of employment are contingent on clearing a background check.
· Drug Screening: All offers of employment are contingent on passing a drug screen.
