Title: Wind Turbine Technician - Trainee (Level 1)
Location: Various: Travel. 6 weeks on 1 week off.
Duration: 12+ Month W2 Contract
RATE: $22/HR
Job Summary:
This is an entry-level and initial training position for individuals interested in wind turbine maintenance and operations. The role is designed to provide hands-on experience under close supervision, focusing on learning technical and safety procedures. As trainees gain proficiency, they will assist higher-level technicians with more complex tasks and work with increasing independence.
Key Responsibilities:
60% - Wind Turbine Maintenance:
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults on wind turbines.
- Perform pad-mounted transformer switching, adhering to Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
- Complete both small and large corrective maintenance tasks on wind turbines.
- Climb up to 300 ft daily to access turbine components.
- Operate and maintain equipment such as forklifts and groundskeeping machinery.
- Ensure a high level of safety awareness at all times.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods.
20% - Compliance & Administrative Record Maintenance:
- Maintain Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S) documentation.
- Complete paperwork such as work orders, timesheets, and tool/PPE inventory.
- Utilize Maximo software to document completed tasks and work orders.
20% - Site Support:
- Travel as needed to assist other company locations.
- Participate in on-call duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Not required. However, an Associate’s Degree in a technical field is preferred.
Experience:
- No prior experience is required, though completion of a wind training program and experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies is preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with high-voltage and sub-station maintenance.
- Ability to use mechanical and electronic testing equipment such as voltage testers, amp clamps, and oscilloscopes.
- Knowledge of crane and rigging operations.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work at heights (up to 300 ft).
- Must be comfortable working in varying weather conditions (hot, cold, etc.).
- Weight restriction of 265 lbs for safety with weight-rated equipment.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to complete Level 1 training and performance measures within one year.
- Willingness to travel and support additional sites when needed.
Nature of the Job:
- Routine, repetitive tasks following set guidelines.
- Clear instructions provided by a supervisor, but trainees will learn to make decisions independently over time.
