Introduction

We are seeking a highly experienced Construction Director to lead its renewable energy construction operations across South Africa.

The successful candidate will oversee the delivery of solar PV, battery energy storage (BESS) and related infrastructure projects, ensuring profitability, operational efficiency, quality and successful project completion.

This is a senior leadership opportunity requiring extensive construction experience, strong commercial management capabilities and a proven record of successfully managing multiple large-scale projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement construction business strategies and operational plans.
Take full responsibility for project profitability, budgets, cash flow and financial performance.
Oversee multiple construction projects from planning and mobilisation through to commissioning and handover.
Manage civil, mechanical and electrical construction activities.
Monitor project costs, timelines, resources and quality standards.
Oversee procurement, subcontractor management and contract administration.
Manage contractual variations, claims, extensions of time and commercial risks.
Lead and develop project managers, site managers and construction teams.
Build and maintain relationships with clients, EPC contractors, consultants and subcontractors.
Identify project risks, delays and cost overruns and implement corrective measures.
Support tender evaluations, contract negotiations and business development.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

Degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
Minimum 12 years' relevant construction experience.
At least 5 years' senior management or leadership experience, overseeing multiple projects and financial performance.
Proven experience delivering substantial solar PV, BESS, electrical infrastructure or comparable infrastructure projects.
Demonstrated responsibility for project or business unit profitability, budgets and cash flow.
Strong understanding of civil, mechanical and electrical construction activities.
Extensive experience in contract administration, procurement, subcontractor management and project delivery.
Excellent leadership, negotiation, commercial and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to travel regularly to project sites across South Africa.

Advantageous

Experience working with EPC contractors on large-scale renewable energy projects.
Knowledge of FIDIC and/or NEC contracts.
Experience working with international stakeholders, particularly Chinese EPC contractors.
Relevant professional registration.
