Job Description
As Civil Engineer you will be responsible for leading engineering technical activities of design and analysis including utility-scale solar & battery storage. You will be capable of specifying and designing roads, culverts, and plan for stormwater management, and cut-fill modelling.
Responsibilities:
- Lead communication with clients, vendors, and colleagues to achieve deliverables on time and on budget.
- Create drawing packages for RFPs, proposals, procurement, and construction using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Perform site visits to inspect construction or commissioning activities.
- Lead, collaborate, and share knowledge with fellow colleagues.
- Understand project lifecycles including AHJ approval processes.
- Estimate engineering engagements and project pricing from start to finish.
- Expertise in specifying, quantifying, and advising on road and general area cut and fill methods and details.
- Experience conducting cut/fill surface modelling for structures and roads.
- Proficiency in stormwater management design to ensure compliance with AHJ requirements, as well as designing culvert and ditch systems.
- Ability to perform AutoTurn sweep analysis for a variety of vehicles including trucks and buses.
- Experience working with array structures or product vendors for tolerance compliance.
- Ability to specify concrete slab-on-grade installations is considered a plus.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
- 8-10 years of experience in renewable project engineering, with a preference for experience in solar and batteries.
- Professional Engineering license (P.Eng.) in a Canadian province.
- Legal permission to work in Canada.
- Valid driver’s license in a Canadian province and willingness to travel to project sites.
- Strong verbal and written proficiency in English.
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Civil 3D.
- Substantial experience with provincial transportation codes, soil management codes, and provincial building codes.
- Working knowledge of IEEE 1547, CSA 22.2 No. 107.1, UL 1741, and/or NFPA 855 is preferred.
- Experience with electrical substations is considered a plus.
