Renewable Energy: Development Project Manager (Wheeling)
Are you passionate about renewable energy and eager to make a significant impact in the industry? Look no further! Our client, a renowned renewable energy company, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Development Project Manager to join their team.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the energy wheeling sector, possess robust project management skills, and demonstrate extensive knowledge of the renewable energy sector in South Africa, with a particular focus on solar and utility-scale projects. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this role requires a deep understanding of the technical, contractual, financial, and licensing aspects of renewable energy projects, primarily solar, as well as familiarity with the South African energy market and its regulatory frameworks.
Responsibilities:
- Previous experience working with developers on renewable energy project development, covering all phases from site identification to financial close.
- Strong project management skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of the development process for wheeling projects (or REIPP), including regulatory, permitting, commercial, technical, and financial aspects. While not needing to be an expert in each area, the candidate must have sufficient knowledge to effectively coordinate the team, utilizing both internal and external resources.
- Strong network with the Eskom team responsible for wheeling/REIPP projects.
Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certifications in renewable energy or project management are preferred.
- PMP Certificate will be an advantage.
- Successful track record in wheeling development projects.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, and 2 years of experience in a similar role, specifically in project management within the renewable energy sector.
- Excellent knowledge of the South African energy market, including its regulatory frameworks, policies, and energy frameworks.
- Solid understanding of technical aspects
- Solid knowledge of EPC an PPA contracts
- Nice to have: foundation in financial analysis, including project financing, ROI calculations, and financial modelling
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
