As a Schneider Electric Microgrid Expert and System Integrator for Southern Africa, Our Client , installs, and maintains advanced Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Agricultural solar installations, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), microgrid controllers, and proprietary IoT/EMS monitoring platforms

Role Summary

Our Client is seeking a high-performing Technical Sales Representative to join our expansion drive across the Greater Johannesburg and broader Gauteng market.

In this position, you will identify, target, and convert commercial, industrial, and agricultural clients seeking medium-to-large scale solar PV, BESS, and microgrid solutions. You will bridge the gap between technical engineering and commercial feasibility, acting as a trusted energy advisor to business owners, C-suite executives, and operational directors.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Account Acquisition & Business Development

Proactively identify and prospect C&I, manufacturing, logistics, retail, and agricultural entities requiring energy resilience, peak-shaving, and energy cost reduction.
Conduct site walk-throughs, load profile assessments, and initial technical discoveries to understand client energy infrastructure and tariff structures (Eskom / Municipal).
Present turnkey EPCM solar solutions, Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) models, and bankable financial returns (ROI, IRR, Payback, Section 12B tax benefits).

Technical Consultation & Solution Design Collaboration

Collaborate closely with the internal engineering team to translate client consumption metrics into tailored solar PV, Schneider microgrid, and BESS proposals.
Present complex technical concepts—such as microgrid integration, hybrid solar-diesel operation, power quality, and SCADA monitoring—in clear, business-focused language.
Formulate formal commercial tenders, RFPs, and binding proposals supported by bank-grade yield simulations (PVsyst / Homer Pro).

Relationship Management & Strategic Partnerships

Build and maintain relationships with financial institutions, agricultural cooperatives, property managers, and project developers to drive deal flow.
Manage the full sales lifecycle from lead generation, preliminary design presentation, contract negotiation, to project handoff to the execution team.
Support post-commissioning client engagement by upselling long-term operations & maintenance (O&M) contracts and monitoring solutions.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Key Requirements & Qualifications

Experience

3–5+ years of technical sales or business development experience within the South African C&I Solar PV or electrical infrastructure sector.
Proven track record of closing commercial/industrial solar deals ($250k+ / R3M+ deal sizes).
Deep knowledge of the South African energy landscape, load shedding impacts, Eskom grid compliance, and NERSA regulations.

Technical & Commercial Competencies

Strong understanding of low-voltage (LV) and medium-voltage (MV) electrical distribution, inverters, BESS technologies, and grid-tied/hybrid microgrid configurations.
Familiarity with Tier-1 components and premium platforms (e.g., Schneider Electric EcoStruxure, Schneider Microgrid controllers).
Proficiency in financial modeling for capital investments (CapEx vs. OpEx models, PPA, EaaS, debt financing options).
Basic capability in software tools like PVsyst, Helioscope, Excel financial models, and CRM systems (HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar).

Personal Attributes & Mobility

Strong negotiation, presentation, and executive-level closing skills.
Valid South African driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within Gauteng and neighboring agricultural/industrial regions.
High autonomy, goal-driven mindset, and capability to work in a fast-paced EPCM environment.
