Introduction

Metsolar is looking for an experienced and hands-on Senior / Lead Solar Installation Electrician to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled electrician with strong solar PV experience who can lead installations, work confidently on-site, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Duties & Responsibilities

Lead and supervise solar PV installation teams on commercial and industrial sites.
Install, commission and maintain grid-tied, hybrid and off-grid solar PV systems.
Install and integrate battery storage systems, including lithium and lead-acid batteries.
Perform inverter commissioning, string sizing and associated electrical installation work.
Read and interpret electrical drawings, technical drawings and single-line diagrams.
Conduct site assessments, technical walkthroughs and client handovers.
Ensure installations are prepared correctly for Certificate of Compliance (COC) inspection and sign-off.
Maintain accurate installation documentation and as-built records.
Ensure all work complies with relevant electrical standards and specifications.
Identify and resolve technical issues during installations.
Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements on-site.
Work at heights and within confined roof spaces when required.
Travel to various project sites as required.
Provide technical guidance and support to installation teams.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

Grade 12 / Matric certificate
Recognised electrical qualification (e.g. Trade Test, or equivalent); a 3 Phase Wireman's License
PV GreenCard / SAPVIA accreditation (or equivalent recognised PV installer certification), or willingness to obtain
Valid driver's license (Code B or higher); own reliable transport advantageous

Experience

3+ years' hands-on experience installing grid-tied, hybrid and off-grid solar PV systems
5+ years' experience as a Electrician.
Proven experience on commercial/industrial-scale installations
Experience leading or supervising a installation team on-site
Experience with battery storage systems (lithium and lead-acid) and backup/UPS integration
Solid understanding of inverter commissioning, string sizing, and system design principles
Experience preparing installations for Certificate of Compliance (COC) inspection and sign-off, including correct documentation and as-built records
Working knowledge of SANS 10142-1-2 (wiring code), SANS 61215/61730, and NRS 097 standards
Experience liaising directly with clients on-site, including site assessments, technical walkthroughs, and handover

Other requirements

Sound knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS Act) requirements on-site
Ability to read and interpret electrical/technical drawings and single-line diagrams
Strong leadership, problem-solving and communication skills
Able to work at heights and in confined roof spaces
Physically fit and willing to travel to various sites
