The Tower Wiring Technician installs, routes, terminates, and tests electrical wiring systems inside wind turbine towers (or other vertical tower structures). This role works as part of a crew to ensure all wiring is installed according to project specifications, safety standards, and manufacturer requirements. The Tower Wiring Technician supports the completion of electrical work during tower assembly, contributing to safe, efficient, and high-quality construction.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Function:
- Install and route electrical cables, harnesses, and wiring inside tower sections according to schematics and work instructions.
- Perform terminations, grounding, labeling, and cable management tasks.
- Use electrical tools and equipment to complete work safely and accurately.
- Read and follow electrical diagrams, blueprints, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Assist in troubleshooting wiring issues under the direction of a foreman or lead technician.
- Conduct basic continuity and insulation resistance testing as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area inside tower sections.
- Follow all site safety rules, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Report progress, material needs, and any issues to the foreman.
- Support other team members to ensure project milestones are met.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; electrical or technical training preferred.
- 1+ year of electrical installation or industrial wiring experience preferred.
- Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
- Basic knowledge of electrical safety practices and applicable codes.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and basic electrical testing equipment.
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- OSHA 10 certification preferred; CPR/First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain).
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb and work inside tower structures.
- Lift up to 50 lbs. and work in confined spaces.
- Stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
- Travel required to project locations, often in rural or remote areas.
