Job Description:

An Environment Officer in steel manufacturing ensures the facility adheres to environmental laws and sustainability goals. They oversee pollution control equipment, manage waste, and liaise with the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) to minimize the plant's ecological footprint. [1, 2]

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance: Manage end-to-end applications for Consent to Establish (CTE), Consent to Operate (CTO), and Environmental Clearances (EC) with the SPCB and MoEF&CC. [1, 2]
Pollution Control: Monitor air emissions (bag filters, scrubbers) and manage water treatment. Oversee Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) and Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) to guarantee zero liquid discharge. [1, 2, 3]
Waste Management: Track, store, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous industrial waste (e.g., slag, dust, sludge) in accordance with CPCB guidelines. [1, 2]
Reporting & Audits: Conduct internal environmental audits and prepare routine compliance reports for management and government agencies. [1, 2, 3]
Safety & Training: Collaborate with EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) teams to conduct safety drills and educate employees on environmental policies.

Qualifications & Skills

Education: Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
Experience: Typically 3 to 5+ years in heavy industry or steel manufacturing.
Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Environmental Protection Act, Air/Water Acts, and SPCB/CPCB compliance requirements.
Competencies: Strong liaison skills with government officials, analytical abilities, and ISO 14001:2015 knowledge.
