Summary
This position is part of the Office of Environmental Management - Carlsbad Field Office, Department of Energy. As a Health Physicist, you will provide guidance to leadership and contractor management on issues related to health physics, computational software applications, and other areas of safety and health of the workers, public and environment.
Major Duties
As a Health Physicist, you will: Manage and oversee radiation safety and protection programs. Conduct technical evaluations, risk assessments, and radiological surveys to identify, monitor, and mitigate radiation hazards across facility operations and workspaces. Develop and implement radiation safety policies, standard operating procedures, and emergency response protocols. Serve as technical authority and consultant on health physics, advising senior leadership, project managers, external regulatory bodies, and the public on specialized safety matters. Plan, coordinate, and deliver radiation safety training and exposure-monitoring programs. Review and collaborate on the design, renovation, and installation of facility workspaces, specialized instrumentation, and shielding to ensure adequate engineered controls against radiation exposure.
