What you’ll do
Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Engineers in the Technical Office of Engineering (TOE) responsible for all R&D functions in the Production Center in Blythewood
- Hire and onboard new team members as needed to meet program and organizational growth.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure proper workload balance, resource planning, and team development.
Technical Office – Task and Function
Industrialization of New Models
- Adapting the design to production conditions (“Design for Manufacturing”)
- Product- Adaptations to optimize manufacturing processes and workflows
- Coordination with MSTs and the Production Center (P, QA)
Engineering Change Management
- Secure integrated issues management and communication
- Technical evaluation of the production impact of design changes
- Coordinating implementation in the plant (timing, trail builds)
- Ensuring changes are cleanly integrated into the production line (build documentation)
Quality Assurance and Problem Solving
- Be part of Root cause analysis (e.g., fit, tolerances, material defects)
- Ensure collaboration with quality, suppliers, and development
- Introducing technical improvements to prevent field issues
Interface to DREs
- Feedback from series production to the DREs
- Participation in “Part Table reviews” (e.g., component approvals)
- Support with testing and validation in build process
Launch Support (Launch Management)
- Organize Test- car build and build documentation
- Test car sign-off for R&D
- Supporting pre-series builds and ramp-up
- Ensuring quick technical communication
- Rapid resolution of “build issues”
Supplier and Component Support
- Technical coordination with suppliers in case of problems or changes
- Evaluation of component quality and manufacturability
Cost and Efficiency Optimization
- Identifying cost-saving potential (materials, processes)
- Implementing value engineering measures
- Reducing scrap and rework
Coss‑Functional Collaboration
- Align closely with production, quality, sales, purchasing, finance, product management, vehicle dynamics, CAE, other R&D teams, and cross‑system engineering partners.
Strategic Planning & Program Management
- Develop long‑term strategies for component maturity, sourcing, innovation, and future technology roadmaps.
- Create and maintain engineering development plans and ensure alignment with program milestones.
- Identify and mitigate program risks related to timing, resources, suppliers, cost, or technical challenges.
Location & Travel Expectations:
- This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, South Carolina.
- This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.
- Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.
- Travel: Domestic travel required, approximately 20% of the time. Valid driver's license required.

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in automobile Engineering and or Manufacturing within an OEM or Tier‑1 supplier.
- 4+ year in a Management Role with people directly reporting.
- Proven experience developing components from concept through production release.
- Prior leadership experience managing engineers or technical teams.
- Strong understanding of Engineering and Manufacturing processes
- Experience with supplier management, design reviews, PPAP processes, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Proficiency with CAD systems (e.g., CATIA, Teamcenter or similar).
- Exceptional communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Pay Transparency
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Initial Base Salary Range: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00
