Kent is looking for an Environmental Assessment Specialist to be based in the UK
This is an exciting opportunity to join the new Environment Team in Kent and be a pivotal part of the growth and development of that team. We are looking for an Environmental Assessment Specialist who is ready to take the next step in their career. The role will be demanding and varied with involvement in project management and bidding as well as a strong focus on technical delivery. The ideal candidate will have a background in delivering and project managing environmental and sustainability assessments (e.g. EIAs) in the UK energy sector (low carbon, renewables, offshore wind, electricity transmission and distribution, or oil and gas) and a strong desire to progress quickly. A key component of the role will be to drive technical and project delivery excellence throughout the Environment Team and grow Kent’s reputation for robust and efficient delivery of high-quality environmental support. The Environmental Assessment Specialist will oversee all environmental assessments in the Environment Team ensuring technical excellence in everything we do. The role will report into the Environment Market Director. Support and guidance will be provided in growing, developing and leading as necessary.
Skills & Responsibilities:
- Delivery of environmental and sustainability assessments to Kent clients.
- Project management to ensure studies and projects are delivered in compliance with agreed scope, budgets, schedules and to the required quality.
- Drives technical excellence in the delivery of environmental assessments – working with other specialists in the team to deliver excellence, both from a technical and project management perspective.
- Identification of clients and opportunities, including working with other members of the team to engage with clients, build relationships and win work.
- Conducting and supporting related consultancy scopes (in particular, experience in DCOs, TCPAs and associated applications) for low carbon, renewables, offshore wind, electricity transmission and distribution, or oil and gas sectors.
- Provision of strategic environmental guidance and advice to clients.
- Technical report authorship, checking, reviewing and approval.
- Supporting other specialists on project delivery and providing technical guidance and mentoring support.
- Preparation of cost estimates and bids for new work scopes.
- Support the recruitment of new team members to match market growth.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
- Experience delivering EIAs or related environmental or sustainability assessments.
- Experience project managing environment scopes of work.
- Degree(s) in a relevant subject matter.
- Chartership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CEnv), or evidence of progression towards chartered status.
- Experience working in the UK Energy industry.
- Experience delivering work scopes to meet delivery/cost targets without compromising quality.
- Familiar with relevant legislation and industry standards and able to apply this knowledge and advise clients in relation to these.
- Ability to prepare technical reports to a high standard and check the work of others.
- Experience in a client-facing role, showing an understanding of commercial challenges relevant to a consultancy business.
- Experience of leading or contributing to technical excellence within the environment sector.
- Proactive in the identification of opportunities to grow the business.
Communication:
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Comfortable explaining environmental requirements to clients and senior management.
- Ability to explain the importance of robust project management within a consultancy setting.
- Excellent bid authoring knowledge and skills.
- Ability to work in teams and contribute to a positive and enthusiastic culture.
