Sales Consultant – Commercial & Industrial Solar PV
Locations: Midrand (Johannesburg) x1 & Cape Town (Western Cape) x1
Remuneration:
- Basic Salary: R25,000 per month
- Fuel Allowance: R3,000 per month
- Cellphone Allowance: R1,000 per month
- Commission: 3% on all sales (applicable once a minimum monthly sales threshold of R200,000 is achieved)
Overview
An established provider of end-to-end solar energy solutions is seeking driven and commercially minded Sales Consultants to join its growing team. This role focuses on delivering tailored renewable energy solutions to residential, agricultural, commercial, and industrial clients.
This is not a transactional sales role. It requires a consultative approach—understanding each client’s energy needs, financial considerations, and long-term goals, and guiding them toward the most effective solar solution. You will work closely with technical and operations teams to ensure seamless delivery from initial engagement through to installation and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead Generation & Prospecting
- Identify and target potential clients across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors
- Generate new business through cold calling, referrals, networking, and digital channels
- Conduct site visits and actively build a strong pipeline of opportunities
- Represent the business at industry events, expos, and networking forums
2. Client Engagement & Needs Analysis
- Meet with clients to understand their energy usage, operational needs, and cost challenges
- Analyse electricity bills and consumption patterns
- Conduct or coordinate site assessments, including roof space, shading, and infrastructure suitability
- Educate clients on solar solutions, including cost savings, ROI, and system benefits
3. Solution Design & Proposal Development
- Collaborate with technical teams to develop customised solar solutions
- Prepare detailed, professional proposals outlining:
- System size (kWp)
- Estimated energy generation
- Full cost breakdown
- ROI and payback period
- Present solutions clearly and confidently, ensuring client understanding and buy-in
4. Sales Conversion & Closing
- Manage the full sales cycle from initial engagement to signed agreement
- Address and overcome objections relating to cost, reliability, and financing
- Negotiate pricing and terms within company guidelines
- Consistently close deals and achieve revenue targets
5. Project Handover & Coordination
- Ensure a smooth transition from sales to installation teams
- Confirm all required documentation is accurate and complete
- Remain engaged throughout the installation phase to manage client expectations
6. Customer Relationship Management
- Maintain strong, ongoing relationships with clients
- Provide regular updates on project progress
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction
- Drive referrals and repeat business opportunities
7. Market & Product Knowledge
- Stay up to date with solar technologies (panels, inverters, batteries)
- Keep informed on industry trends, competitor offerings, and regulatory changes
- Understand local tariffs, incentives, and grid requirements
8. Reporting & Administration
- Track all sales activities and pipeline progress via CRM systems
- Report on key metrics including leads, conversions, and revenue
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records
9. Revenue & KPI Achievement
- Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly sales targets
- Focus on profitability and margin, not just volume
- Contribute to overall business growth objectives
Key Requirements
- Proven experience in a sales role (experience in solar, energy, or technical solutions is advantageous)
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Basic technical understanding of solar energy systems (or willingness to learn)
- Solid financial acumen, including understanding ROI and payback models
- Self-motivated, target-driven, and resilient
- Customer-centric approach with strong relationship-building skills
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for client meetings and site visits
