Summary
This position is located in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, in the Maintenance Roads & Trails Division. Performs varied maintenance and labor tasks supporting park operations, including outdoor repairs, tool use, debris removal, and basic construction. Work is physically demanding in changing terrain and weather. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is April-May, with variability due to weather, project needs, or funding. Anticipated EOD: May 2026.
Major Duties
Assist higher-graded trail maintenance staff with the upkeep, repair, and construction of a variety of trail features, including graded and paved trails, drainage systems, trail bridges, guardrails, water-diversion structures, cribbing, and retaining walls. Clear trails by removing downed trees, rockslides, surface outcroppings, and other debris to maintain safe public access. Restore damaged or eroded trail sections by rebuilding tread surfaces and placing steppingstones at creek crossings where bridges cannot be installed. Safely operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools used in trail work, such as shovels, axes, rock bars, chainsaws, and jackhammers; perform routine tool and equipment care. Perform general maintenance tasks, including light carpentry, painting, janitorial support, trash collection, groundskeeping, digging, raking, and sweeping. Assist with transporting camp supplies, tools, and construction materials to job sites, and perform seasonal tasks such as snow and ice removal. Follow established safety procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment for staff, volunteers, and park visitors.
