Second Foundation is a global energy trading company with around 450 employees across locations in Prague (HQ), Zug (CH), Berlin (DE), Charlotte (USA), and Tokyo (JP). We specialize in trading on power markets and in the integration and optimization of renewable energy and battery storage systems. We are actively expanding our own asset base – with a focus on battery storage projects that we manage across the entire lifecycle: from project development through financing, construction, and commissioning to operation and marketing.
We are looking for a fully qualified German lawyer (Volljurist) to join our growing legal team. In this role, you will provide legal support across our battery storage and renewable energy projects along the entire value chain – from project development through transactions and financing to operation and marketing. You will work well beyond pure legal advisory, actively shaping projects end to end.
Whatyouwouldwork on?
- Independently manage and lead M&A transactions, financings, and strategic projects in the renewable energy and battery storage sector.
- Draft, review, and negotiate project contracts – including land use agreements, EPC contracts, O&M contracts, and other project-related documentation.
- Provide legal support across the full project lifecycle: from development and construction through commissioning to operation and marketing of assets.
- Collaborate across disciplines with trading, origination, project development, and asset management teams – driving projects forward together rather than just advising.
- Manage and coordinate external counsel, integrating their advice into project workflows.
- Build and develop internal processes, contract templates, and knowledge management within the legal department.
- Support due diligence reviews, fund structuring, and financing arrangements.
What makes you a great candidate?
- Fully qualified German lawyer (Volljurist – First and Second State Exam).
- 2–3 years of professional experience, with at least part of it in the renewable energy sector.
- Ideally with experience in transactions (M&A) and project finance.
- In-depth knowledge of project contracts (land use agreements, land registry matters, EPC contracts), energy law, and/or fund structuring is a plus.
- Excellent command of German (native level) and English (business fluent) – confident in both languages, written and spoken.
- Comfortable with AI-assisted work – you use tools like Claude or ChatGPT routinely and with appropriate diligence in your daily practice.
- Structured, proactive, and solution-oriented approach – you think beyond pure legal advice and want to build processes and shape projects holistically.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and enthusiasm for taking ownership in a dynamic, fast-growing environment.
What we offer?
- Competitive remuneration package with attractive variable components.
- A role at the heart of a future-proof market – battery storage and renewable energy with real commercial impact.
- Close collaboration with an experienced, cross-functional team spanning trading, portfolio management, and origination.
- Significant room to shape your role in a small, growing legal department with short decision-making paths.
- Rapid development opportunities in a dynamic, international company.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Individual training and development opportunities.
- A small, dedicated office team in Berlin Mitte with an outstanding coffee machine.
- Public transport and lunch subsidies.
