This role is responsible for delivery excellence across the full project lifecycle — from early development through commissioning and operations.
The position plays a key role in strengthening WSP’s renewable energy engineering platform by establishing consistent renewable energy standards, scalable delivery models, and high‑quality client outcomes. The engineer will be involved in projects with our Systems Engineering Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.
Responsibilities- Design and model solar PV systems, Wind and BESS for utility-scale, commercial, and microgrid applications using PVsyst, PVcase, and AutoCAD.
- Perform layout optimization, shading analysis, energy yield simulations, and loss assessments.
- Use NREL’s SAM or other bankable software for financial modeling, performance forecasting, and system cost-benefit analysis.
- Conduct site assessments, review topographical data, and analyze meteorological datasets (e.g., TMY, DNI, GHI).
- Develop and maintain bill of materials (BOM), schematics, and as-built drawings.
- Coordinate with interconnection, civil, and structural teams to ensure complete system integration.
- Support permitting, interconnection applications, and technical documentation for proposals and contracts.
- Develop augmentation optimization models for BESS systems
- Develop vendor-specific system RTE calculations and ensure desired BESS output
- Collaborate with project managers, EPC partners, and other stakeholders to ensure design quality and technical compliance.
- Stay current on codes and standards (e.g., NEC, UL, IEEE, IEC) relevant to solar system design.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in solar PV + BESS system design, preferably across utility, commercial, and microgrid scales.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, PVcase, PVsyst, and NREL SAM.
