Addressing Black representation in the energy industry
At Octopus Energy, our mission is to drive the global renewable revolution and make green energy affordable for all. In order to succeed, we need to build a team that represents everyone in our society. Unfortunately, Black professionals make up < 2% of the energy workforce, which is a significant under-representation compared to the ethnic composition of the UK. To help address this, we have created an internship programme that is only open to candidates who identify with any Black, Black British, African or Caribbean background. We are committed to promoting equality, and this internship is an important step in our effort to foster greater diversity and inclusiveness in our business and industry.

What you'll do:
The Legal team supports the Octopus Energy Generation business across a wide range of legal and commercial matters, including contracts, transactions, and corporate governance. Working closely with stakeholders across the company, the team ensures that legal processes are well-structured, efficient, and aligned with business objectives. The team is collaborative, fast-paced, and solutions-driven, providing critical support on a variety of high-impact projects. We work across a number of different departments: investment teams, asset management teams, ESG, finance which we really enjoy. No two days are the same – we have a lot of fun and get to see a lot of what the wider business is doing!
What you'll have:
As a Legal Intern, you will gain hands-on experience working with a dynamic in-house legal team. You will be able to have a go at assisting with contract management, transactional work, and corporate governance processes, while developing key skills in document review, stakeholder communication, and legal project support. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to learn about legal operations in a commercial environment in the most exciting sector – renewables!

No law degree required, but prior legal experience (internships, coursework, or administrative roles) is beneficial.
