About this role
We’re seeking an experienced Environmental Advisor to support our Project Operations team. In this hands-on site-based role, you will help ensure construction works are undertaken in a way that prevents environmental incidents and meets all project, regulatory and permitting requirements, while promoting sustainable practices aligned to client specifications and standards.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement environmental policies, procedures and documentation to support compliance and sustainable project delivery.
- Conduct site inspections to identify environmental hazards/risks and implement practical controls with the construction team.
- Complete environmental impact assessments and develop strategies to minimise impacts.
- Undertake environmental compliance audits, identify non-conformances and drive corrective actions to closure.
- Monitor and report on key environmental performance metrics (air, noise, water, waste and energy) and recommend improvements.
- Prepare and contribute to daily, weekly and monthly reporting as required.
- Deliver environmental training, toolbox talks and ongoing coaching to crews, contractors and the project management team.
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, regulators and industry bodies to support compliance and best practice.
- Support incident prevention and response, ensuring appropriate actions and learnings are captured and communicated.
- Identify opportunities and innovations to reduce the project’s carbon footprint and overall environmental impact.
About you
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in environmental management (construction/engineering/manufacturing experience highly regarded).
- Strong working knowledge of environmental legislation and best practice frameworks, including EPA requirements and ISO 14001.
- Demonstrated experience in environmental monitoring and environmental impact assessments.
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and mitigate environmental risks.
- Highly effective written and verbal communication skills with strong stakeholder engagement capability.
- Well organised, able to manage multiple priorities, and comfortable working autonomously and as part of a team.
- Positive, proactive approach with a strong commitment to safety leadership and continuous improvement.
Role locations & travel
This role requires flexibility to support project planning and delivery across multiple locations. You will commence in our Brisbane or Perth office (Melbourne considered) before attending site for the execution of works. Following the planning phase, the role will transition to a project-based position with regular travel between Waratah Bay (Victoria) and Heybridge (Tasmania).
