QTMP involves the design, manufacture and maintenance of 65 new six-car passenger trains to support Cross River Rail and the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games. These trains will be built at a new, purpose-built facility in Torbanlea on the Fraser Coast.
We are currently seeking to appoint a Senior Environment & Sustainability Lead, this is a senior role ensuring Queensland Train Manufacturing Project's compliance with environmental, sustainability, regulatory, and client requirements during construction and operation. The position offers expertise, approvals oversight, compliance leadership, performance management, and client reporting across two project sites:
- Ormeau (Construction): Oversees builder performance, reviews environmental documentation, monitors compliance, and supports ISC ratings.
- Torbanlea (Operations): Manages operational environmental plans, statutory/client reporting, and EPBC compliance.
Key duties include:
- Leading environmental governance and ensuring all obligations are met.
- Reviewing and approving builder documents and monitoring programs.
- Managing operational environmental requirements, including OEMP development.
- Providing technical advice on statutory approvals.
- Overseeing monitoring (noise, water, flora/fauna, waste, energy, carbon, contamination, heritage).
- Supporting ISC ratings through assurance and evidence.
- Reporting to clients and presenting technical updates.
- Driving improvement in environmental performance and sustainability.
- Conducting compliance investigations, audits, inspections, and risk reviews.
- Leading builder-based Environment Advisors as SME.
- Managing GHG emissions reporting per NGER/internal standards.
- Implementing KPIs and performance tracking.
- Integrating sustainable procurement and Scope 3 with supply chain teams.
Education & Qualifications:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Infrastructure Sustainability Accredited Professional (ISAP)
Skills & knowledge:
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation, approval conditions and compliance requirements.
- High competence in environmental risk management, incident investigation and auditing.
- Technical knowledge across cultural heritage, noise, water, flora/fauna, waste, contamination, energy and carbon.
- Ability to produce high-quality environmental management plans
- Skilled in stakeholder engagement, including builders, government, regulators and clients.
- Ability to lead and influence without direct authority
