Canadian Nuclear Partners are looking for an Engineering Director to join our client project in Europe. Accountable for the overall leadership, governance, and technical authority of all engineering activities associated with the CANDU Refurbishment Project.
Acting under delegated authority from the Operational Director and Site VP, the role serves as the Design Authority for the project and ensures engineering execution comply with regulatory requirements, applicable codes and standards, configuration control, and nuclear quality expectations.
The Engineering Director ensures that technically optimal solutions are implemented while maintaining schedule, quality, financial control, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive oversight of all engineering activities related to the CANDU refurbishment project.
- Ensure execution of engineering works in accordance with applicable nuclear codes, standards, regulatory requirements, and quality programs.
- Ensure selection and implementation of technically optimal solutions aligned with project objectives.
- Fulfil the role of Design Authority for the Unit 1 Refurbishment Project (as delegated by Site VP and approved by CNCAN).
- Ensure verification, acceptance, and approval of design documentation.
- Oversee procurement engineering and ensure technical specifications for equipment, components, and services meet project and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure technical evaluation and formal disposition of proposed design changes.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and authorization requirements.
- Maintain adherence to CNCAN licensing requirements and NSN-23 norms.
- Ensure alignment with applicable IAEA standards and international nuclear best practices.
- Monitor engineering progress from quantitative and qualitative perspectives.
- Ensure engineering deliverables align with project schedule and execution plan.
- Lead and mentor multidisciplinary engineering departments.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide structured feedback.
- Develop succession planning and individual development programs.
- Report on deviations in staff performance or conduct to Purchaser’s management.
Requirements
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Previous role as Engineering Director for at least one CANDU Refurbishment Project (preparation and implementation phases).
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in Manager and Director roles within the nuclear sector.
- Demonstrated experience in CANDU refurbishment projects.
- Proven track record in large nuclear projects.
- Must meet qualifications to serve as Design Authority and obtain CNCAN approval.
- Must obtain CNCAN certification in accordance with NSN-23 norms.
- Extensive knowledge of nuclear engineering standards, IAEA guidance, regulatory frameworks, and applicable legislation.
