Position Summary
The Senior Finance Manager (Maternity Leave Coverage) is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the organization during the Director of Finance’s leave. This role will focus on financial planning and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting, and maintaining strong financial controls.
This role will work closely with external support teams and internal leadership to ensure the organization’s day-to-day financial oversight, reporting, and compliance obligations are met.
This position reports to the CEO and works closely with the leadership team and Board of Directors.

The Bentway Conservancy is a non-profit organization and registered charity that works closely with the City of Toronto, artists & creatives, and local communities to bring our work to life.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning, Forecasting & Budget Management
- Lead the development, maintenance, and updates of the organization’s operating budgets and financial forecasts.
- Update forecasts regularly to reflect changes in revenue, expenses, grants, and organizational priorities.
- Monitor and reconcile actual revenues and expenses against budget.
- Analyze variances and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Maintain and update cash flow forecasts to support financial planning and operational decision-making.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare the monthly finance package for the Board of Directors, including:
- Financial statements
- Budget vs. actual variance analysis
- Cash flow projections
- Key financial insights and commentary
- Work with leadership to ensure financial information supports strategic planning and decision making.
Payroll & Compliance
- Review payroll for accuracy prior to processing.
- Ensure compliance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements.
- Manage and submit required CRA remittances and filings.
Grants & Restricted Funding Management
- Review grant agreements to determine revenue recognition, fiscal accruals, and reporting requirements.
- Track grant spending and ensure financial reporting aligns with grant restrictions.
- Prepare financial information required for grant reporting and grant budget submissions.
Accounting Oversight
- Review reconciliations of revenues and expenses to ensure accuracy in financial records.
- Maintain key balance sheet schedules, including:
- Amortization schedules
- Deferred revenue
- Deferred capital contributions
- Accrued Liability
- Prepaid Expense
- Support preparation for fiscal year-end and work with external auditors as required.
Insurance & Administrative Financial Oversight
- Act as the internal point person for insurance-related matters, including annual policy renewals.
- Provide financial information required for organizational reporting and compliance processes.
Qualifications
- CPA designation or equivalent accounting/finance experience preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience, ideally within the nonprofit or charitable sector.
- Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Knowledge of Canadian nonprofit accounting practices, including restricted funding and deferral accounting.
- Experience with CRA payroll remittances and compliance.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to translate financial data into clear insights.
- Ability to work collaboratively with leadership teams, boards, and external advisors.
- Successful completion of both a police reference check and credit background check will be required as part of the hiring process.
Compensation
Salary: $85,000 for FT (Flexible 2-3 days part-time option available)
Benefits package after the completion of a probation period.
