What We Can Achieve Together:
The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Coordinator for The Nature Conservancy’s Micronesia and Polynesia Program will support the design and implementation of MEL plans, and reporting of socio-economic, human well-being, and environmental outcomes across conservation projects in the region. This role includes developing and maintaining project data systems, tracking progress against key performance indicators for adaptive management, and assisting with the preparation of donor reports and internal learning products. The coordinator will work closely with conservation program staff to develop MEL plans, identify indicators and means of data collection, ensure data quality and timely reporting, while also facilitating knowledge sharing and learning sessions. In addition, the position will serve as a liaison with regional partners to harmonize MEL indicators and approaches, gather relevant data, and strengthen collaborative monitoring efforts that align with shared conservation goals. While prior experience in MEL is preferred, training is possible for candidates that are organized, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic to learn.
The MEL Coordinator reports to the Micronesia & Polynesia Conservation Director and is a team member of the Micronesia & Polynesia Chapter. The position will be located within the Micronesia Region where The Nature Conservancy is a registered NGO with an established TNC presence (Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands, or Guam). Applicants who are not located within the Micronesia Region and are unable/unwilling to relocate to the Micronesia Region will not be considered. This position is not eligible for relocation or immigration assistance.
We’re Looking for You:
The MEL Coordinator develops and maintains replicable and scalable systems and processes for monitoring progress, reports on socio-economic, human wellbeing, and environmental outcomes, supports rigorous impact evaluations, and manages lessons and knowledge acquired throughout project implementation, allowing for adaptive management and refinement of the Program’s strategies and projects based on MEL findings. They are expected to integrate diverse primary and secondary data sources, including spatially explicit information, census data, field surveys, and interviews to provide qualitative and quantitative evidence on the progress and impacts of Program strategies and projects. They communicate information to project managers to inform decision-making. They create coherence between TNC’s organizational-level 2030 goals and regional-level project implementation and monitoring systems. They work closely with TNC Micronesia and Polynesia staff and local project partner organizations to further develop their MEL systems, build partner capacity on MEL design and implementation, incorporate local knowledge, advise on relevant data collection and analysis methods, and report to project partners in culturally-or audience-relevant ways (e.g., through the creation of stories, visuals, dashboards, and reports).
What You’ll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in science-related field and 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with Microsoft Office suite
Experience collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and communicating scientific information.
Experience in preparing reports of findings.
Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people
Desired Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in relevant social science, natural science or conservation-related field (e.g., environmental or ecological anthropology/geography/sociology/economics/psychology, conservation science/governance, conservation and development, cultural and political ecology).
Minimum of two years’ work experience in conservation planning, project implementation, and MEL.
Experience working with multiple stakeholders, including Indigenous peoples and local communities.
Willingness to undertake regular field visits and guide/supervise fieldwork and surveys.
Experience in training/leading workshops/building capacity/developing guidelines.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
Salary Information:
This position may be based in any country in Micronesia where TNC has an established entity (Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands, or Guam), taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times.
The starting annual pay for this position is between the range of $19,100 - $52,000. The offered salary will be based on location, qualifications, skills, and experience. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range.
