Senior Manager, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)
Position Summary
The Senior Manager, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, safety, and security programs across U.S. manufacturing sites. This role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and international regulations while driving a proactive safety culture that protects employees, contractors, visitors, and company assets.
The Senior Manager Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will manage multiple sites and serve as the subject matter expert for complex EHS compliance requirements. This position is accountable for the performance and results of multiple EHS professionals and aligns EHS strategies with overall business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Program Management
Develop and execute multi-site safety strategies aligned with business and operational priorities.
Lead, coach, and develop Environmental Health and Safety professionals to achieve safety and environmental performance goals.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce injuries, environmental incidents, and compliance risks.
Lead development and execution of business continuity and emergency preparedness plans.
Leads Watlow ergonomic initiatives throughout entire facility, including manufacturing, administration, technology, and production teams.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all applicable local, state, federal, and international regulations.
Serve as the subject matter expert for environmental and safety regulatory requirements.
Manage complex workers’ compensation cases, including those exceeding $25,000.
Lead ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 (formerly OSHAS 18001) management system implementation and continuous improvement efforts.
Oversee and train the EHS team on safety incident investigations and provide oversite on recommended course of action.
Lead internal and external safety audits and drive corrective and preventive actions.
Manages qualification, prequalification program for all contractors and machine building vendors.
Manufacturing Safety Operations
Lead site-level risk assessments including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
Partner with Engineering and Operations to ensure safety compliance in capital expenditures and equipment installations.
Conduct vendor safety audits on new or leased capital equipment prior to acceptance.
Analyze incident and loss control data to identify trends and implement preventive measures.
Oversee industrial hygiene programs and hazardous material management.
Lead emergency response teams (ERTs) and facility evacuation programs.
Security & Asset Protection
Direct administrative supervision of facility security programs.
Develop and maintain security procedures in compliance with required codes and regulations.
Ensure protection of personnel and company property.
Prepare and maintain required safety and security manuals and documentation.
Education, Experience and Certification Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of related Environmental Health and Safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
Minimum of 5 years in a leadership or management role overseeing multiple sites or teams.
Or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Certifications
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) preferred.
OSHA 30-hour preferred.
