Title: Architectural Drawings Archives Technician

Job Summary:
The Architectural Drawings Archives Technician will be responsible for surveying and rehousing WCS’s collection of Bronx Zoo architectural drawings dating from the 1890s to the 1990s. In addition to creating an inventory of the drawings and assessing them for condition concerns, the Architectural Drawings Archives Technician will rehouse the drawings in new oversize folders within flat file cases. This is a part-time temporary position that is expected to last for 16 weeks with 24 hours of work each week onsite at the Bronx Zoo. The Archives Technician position will be supervised by the WCS Archivist and Digital Preservation Manager serving as Archives Project Manager, with local supervision by the Facilities & Construction Project Manager.
Major Responsibilities:- Surveying collection of architectural drawings in order to create a spreadsheet inventory documenting titles, dates, and any condition concerns.
- Rehousing all existing drawings in new oversize folders.
- Identifying redundancies for possible deaccessioning.
- Redistributing contents of any existing drawers that are overcrowded into new flat file drawers.
- Meeting regularly with Library and Archives staff to discuss progress and stay informed about other Library and Archives activities.
Internal Qualification RequirementsCompletion of an MLIS with a focus on archival records, or similar course of study
At least 1 year previous experience in a professional setting handling archival architectural drawings or other oversize materials
Demonstrated knowledge of historical architectural drawings, their conventions, and media types
Fine attention to detail
Strong ability to work independently
Ability to meet physical and workplace demands as indicated below
