DescriptionWorthington Enterprises is expanding our Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) team and is seeking an Environmental Manager to lead environmental programs at our Chilton manufacturing facility. This role plays a critical part in promoting environmental awareness, preventing incidents, and protecting the environment while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
This position manages the environmental aspects of EHS and will partner closely with plant leadership, employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies to drive best-in-class environmental performance.
We are open to candidates with backgrounds as Environmental Engineers, Environmental Specialists, or Environmental Managers who have hands-on experience with complex environmental programs in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, and other federal, state, and local requirements). Manage environmental permits and ensure timely completion of records, reports, and regulatory submissions.
- Identify, recognize, and assess environmental and workplace hazards. Ensure job functions have appropriate risk assessments completed. Recommend and implement corrective actions, prioritizing engineering controls where feasible. Ensure appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is identified, available, and used.
- Oversee environmental and EHS incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Ensure proper documentation, follow-up, and closure of findings. Manage and support the site safety council, providing guidance and leadership. Complete internal incident notifications in accordance with company policy.
- Communicate environmental and safety performance metrics and progress toward company goals. Serve as the primary interface with external regulatory agencies and inspectors.
- Lead vendor selection, contract management, and ongoing relationships related to environmental services.
- Oversee contractors and third-party vendors to ensure compliance with site and regulatory requirements.
- Promote environmental awareness across the facility with an emphasis on prevention and continuous improvement. Educate employees on applicable environmental standards and regulatory requirements. Ensure all required environmental and EHS training is identified, delivered, and documented for new and existing employees.
RequirementsQualifications:
- Experience in a manufacturing or similar industrial environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing environmental programs, including hazardous waste, permitting, and regulatory reporting.
- Strong leadership skills with experience leading people, programs, or initiatives.
- Excellent organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
- Solid understanding of environmental policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees and leaders at all levels of the organization.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Safety, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of related experience supporting environmental standards and compliance within an EHS function.
