DescriptionAs a Senior Environmental Planner within the WSP Earth & Environment team, you will be working with multi-disciplinary project teams on large scale infrastructure projects. You will be primarily engaged in Consenting & Compliance, Environmental & Social Impact Assessments and Stakeholder Engagements. An ideal candidate will possess/develop strong understanding of extant legislative policies, have strong data analytics skills, engage in mitigation design/planning and develop reports and support consenting processes.
Responsibilities Undertake tasks associated with lodging applications for resource consent eg, public consultation, considering issues, identifying a regulatory way forward; Prepare and process resource consent applications, assessment of environmental effects, notice of requirements and outline plans.
• Undertake statutory assessments within the context of relevant plans and legislations; Assist with and undertake community engagement on behalf of clients.
• Provide input into the planning of infrastructure and civil engineering projects and assist project managers with project scoping with appropriate inputs, outputs and verification activities.
• Demonstrate sound knowledge of resource management planning and formulate advices for clients on resource management plans and policies; Produce innovative and original resource management planning outcomes that are well thought through; Distil information into recommendations regarding next steps.
• Contribute to planning advice and input to Initial and Detailed Business Cases for transport projects, including Multi-Criteria Analysis scoping, plan reviews, and business case writing support.
• Work within multi-disciplinary teams, advising them of potential inter-dependencies and interactions between specialist areas, identifying where a change in one area might impact another (e.g. ecology and air quality).
• Write fact-based reports with objective assessment of proposed developments (and its potential impacts) in relation to government (central and local) policies and plans.
• Have a good appreciation of relevant legislation and maintains knowledge of appropriate technical standards, legislation, codes of practice and New Zealand norms.
• Promote best practice within the team and individual projects; Provide technical and operational support to others within the Environment Team.

Qualifications Postgraduate Degree in Environmental Planning (eg. from SPAs etc.) or Environmental Engineering/Science (eg. from IITs/NITs/IISc etc.)
• Membership of a SocEnv licensed professional organisation like IEMA, CIEEM etc; Chartered status preferred.
• Experience of working on overseas (UK/AU/NZ) assignments around Stakeholder Engagements, Environmental & Social Impact Assessments, Consenting and Complinace will be given high preference.
Experience
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience post qualification in Environmental & Social Impact Assements and Consenting & Compliance
• Demonstrable experience in using ArcGIS or QGIS and insightful, data-based storytelling using PowerBI or R Studio etc.
• Experience of working on overseas (UK/AU/NZ) assignments preferred. Strong understanding of the UK model will be highly beneficial.
