Job Description and Duties
Under the direction of the Caltrans Electrical Supervisor of the Office of ITS Engineering and Support, the incumbent is responsible for the electrical maintenance of the district's Transportation Management System (TMS). The incumbent may be required to install, configure, test and troubleshoot systems and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment. The incumbent works independently at a journey level and engages in complex layout work. This includes the electrical and mechanical systems associated with process control networks, telecommunications systems, microwave communications systems, video display systems connected to the Transportation Management Center (TMC) and Field Element Network (FEN). The incumbent also prepares, constructs and installs ITS field equipment as part of the district's capital support program.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Electrician II exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions
This position requires visual and color acuity adequate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, willingness to work at odd hours, be available for day or night calls, stay abreast of current technological changes in the fields of electricity and electronics, work up to 550 feet above pavement or water, work in the midst of traffic, and have the ability to withstand working under adverse (e.g., cold, wet, windy) weather conditions.

- The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
- The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
- This position is subject to the Post & Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer, change‑in‑class, reinstatement, re‑employment, and/or training and development assignment will be accepted for this position but may not be considered unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.
