Job Description
Title: Investment Analyst / Associate — Infrastructure & Renewables
Location: Melbourne (Hybrid)
Reports to: Head of Investments / Managing Director
Team: Small, boutique investment & asset management team
Role purpose
Support origination, underwriting, execution and asset management of a growing infrastructure investment program — primary focus on renewables (solar + battery energy storage) with exposure to complementary social infrastructure (e.g., affordable housing). The role combines financial modelling, commercial diligence, transaction support and ongoing portfolio monitoring.
Key responsibilities
- Build, maintain and audit detailed financial models for greenfield and brownfield renewable projects (solar, BESS) and social infrastructure assets.
- Lead quantitative diligence inputs: cashflows, sensitivity and scenario analysis, capex/O&M schedules, and valuation analysis (DCF, IRR, project/equity returns).
- Support commercial, technical and legal diligence: coordinate external advisers, summarise findings, and produce investment papers and investment committee packs.
- Assist with deal origination and pipeline management: market screens, buyer/seller outreach, and preparation of transaction materials.
- Support transaction execution: term sheet negotiation support, liaise with lenders/advisers, and manage data room workflows.
- Asset management & performance monitoring post-acquisition: track KPIs, produce monthly/quarterly reports, and support optimisation initiatives.
- Prepare investor reporting materials and assist with fundraising and capital-raising activities.
- Ad-hoc strategic analysis: market research (policy, merchant pricing, technology costs), competitor/transaction benchmarking, and input to investment strategy.
Experience & technical skills
- Analyst: 2–5 years; Associate: 4–7 years relevant experience in infrastructure/private equity/investment banking (M&A or project finance), superannuation/private markets investing, or chartered accounting with transaction experience. Preference for candidates with renewables exposure.
- Advanced Excel modelling skills — experience building cashflow models for power/energy assets, sensitivity/scenario modelling, and model auditability.
- Financial valuation skills: DCF, IRR, project vs equity returns, and basic debt modelling.
- Experience with transaction execution (data rooms, diligence trackers, adviser coordination).
- Strong written and verbal communication — ability to produce concise investment memoranda and present to senior stakeholders.
- Tertiary degree in finance, accounting, engineering, economics or related discipline. Chartered/CAs or CFA candidates desirable.
Desirable
- Direct renewables experience: solar PV, BESS, PPA/merchant market exposure.
- Experience with Australian project finance and regulatory environment.
- Stakeholder management: developers, EPCs, lenders, utilities.
- Experience in social infrastructure (affordable housing) helpful.
Behaviours & cultural fit
- Commercial, pragmatic problem-solver balancing speed and rigour.
- Team-player comfortable in a small, hands-on boutique environment.
- High integrity, attention to detail, and ability to prioritise under pressure.
