DescriptionJob Summary: The Director, Health, Safety and Environment will develop and implement the health, safety, and environment strategy and programs for Li-Cycle globally. Responsibilities will also include ensuring all facilities and job sites comply with health, safety and environmental regulations, promoting a culture of safety and sustainability, and leading continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute HSE strategies and action plans aligned with the Li-Cycle’s business objectives.
- Lead and mentor the HSE team, fostering a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainability, including developing clear and measurable KPIs and goals.
- Regular HSE reporting to Li-Cycle’s Senior Leadership Team and Board of Directors.
- Identify and assess HSES risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Oversee continuous improvement of Li-Cycle’s health, safety, and environment policies, procedures, and reporting tools.
- Monitor and analyze health, safety, and environmental performance metrics, and drive initiatives to reduce incidents and improve workplace safety.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure effective incident response and crisis management plans are in place, and when needed, conduct investigations.
- Support engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, regulators, and community groups, to promote HSE initiatives.
- Represent the company in industry forums and regulatory discussions.
- Promote and raise awareness of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislated or best practices, on corporate, ethical and social responsibility.
- Keep up to date with changes in environmental legislation and best practice initiatives.
Job Qualifications:
Education:
- Post-secondary degree in related field.
- 10+ years' experience in HSE roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position.
- Experience in developing and implementing Health and Safety programs and monitoring performance.
- Understand and have complete knowledge of all Federal, Provincial rules and regulations pertaining to safety codes and Occupational Health and Safety rules.
- Competency in reporting safety KPI’s.
- Experience in investigating health and safety incidents; provide reporting and recommend/follow action(s) to completion.
- Excellent time management and project management skills.
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
- Effective leadership skills required.
