POSITION SUMMARY:
The individual in this role is responsible for managing facility Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) and Hazardous Material (Hazmat) Transportation management programs and ensures compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations, as well as company policies within Morton Grove. Oversees activities and all aspects operational safety, environmental permitting/reporting, customer/regulatory audits, spill response team, employee training and drills, security and hazardous material transportation support. This role will both lead and support operational teams and initiatives designed to improve the safety, security, quality, and overall efficiency and cleanliness of the facility. This role will take ownership of compliance with all regulatory agencies and provide janitorial, pest control and security compliance. Supports Regional and Global EHS teams and/or projects, as necessary. The role will report into the Sr. Engineering Manager.

- Submits environmental reports and permit renewal applications to federal, state and local agencies, as required for permitted wastewater discharge, air emissions, regulated waste disposal, pesticide production, and chemical storage and handling.
- Develops written environmental policies and procedures to comply with regulatory and operational changes; drive continuous improvement and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Reports and/or presents environmental KPI’s (recycling, waste reduction, energy usage, water consumption, compliance) and key accomplishments to senior management and corporate.
- Develops, monitors and coordinates company environmental programs in accordance with local/regional regulations, including required training programs.
- Stays current with OSHA/Environmental standards/litigation/impact on Company. Communicate updates and best practices to operations management for potential implementation within the Company.
- Conducts internal, self-audits and facilitates third-party external and regulatory agency audits. Develops corrective action plans, ensures completion and improves process to prevent recurrence.
- Acts as 24 hours emergency response coordinator, ensures proper agency notification in the event of a hazardous materials spill or release, leads/trains the facility chemical spill team, as well as other emergency response teams (fire, tornado).
- Manages recycling and regulated waste responsibilities of Central Stores associates, ensures required training.
- Maintains a close partnership with Medical, HR, R&D, Customer Service, Operations, and Service Providers to maximize success.
- Provides support during customer/regulatory audits, emergency response and drills, employee training, environmental permitting/reporting and hazardous material transportation.
- Develops, monitors and coordinates company safety programs in accordance with local/regional regulations, including required training programs.
- Conducts annual refresher training to all employees in the area of health, safety, ergonomics and other required aspects.
- Oversee the investigation of all accidents and near misses, specifically; timeliness, thoroughness, complete analysis and countermeasures/completion.
- Leads facility safety team walk-throughs, encourages associate involvement, tracks improvement opportunities, leads to completion, facilitates positive safety culture, draws focus to accident prevention.
- Develops annual safety goals and targets to drive continuous improvement, ensure regulatory compliance, and minimize safety related accidents.
- Reports and/or presents safety KPI’s (OSHA Rate, SOR/SAC, SSPR, OSI).
- Ensures conformance to corporate and facility, policies and standards.
- Supports Global EHS/Regulatory teams and/or projects, as necessary.
- Provides back-up and support to Engineering department, as necessary.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree required with a concentration in Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, or Occupational Health; preferred.
- OSHA or similar EHS certifications are a plus.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as an EHS coordinator in a manufacturing environment
- Detailed knowledge of relevant regulations such as OSHA, EPA, and ANSI.
- Must be able to analyze data and have operational understanding to identify, prevent, and solve problems and make decisions in a timely manner.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulatory compliance.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Team player prefers fast paced environment, comfortable multi-tasking.
- Strong organizational and training skills.
- Analytical & detail oriented.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word & Outlook.

The working environment includes both office and plant floor settings. Exposure to industrial noise, forklift traffic, noise, wet floors, odors, fumes, moving mechanical parts, and temperature fluctuations and extremes in operating areas of the plant. Specified PPE required in operational areas.
