The newly created Sustainable Solutions Group (SSG, a merger of Sustainable Finance and the Sector Sustainability Leads teams), drives the overall sustainability strategy of the WB within the Sector Coverage organisation.
Within SSG, we now open the role of Head of SSG Expertise and Implementation. You will set the standards for the roll-out of ING’s sustainability strategy within the Wholesale Bank, developing, innovating and safeguarding knowledge. Together with relevant delivery organizations, you take responsibility for the E2E delivery for all strategic initiatives across the 4-pillar WB sustainability strategy, being: net zero steering, sustainable finance, ESG risk management and reporting.
This role can be fulfilled in Frankfurt or Amsterdam, the two locations where we also envisage that the rest of the Expertise and Implementation team will be recruited.
The Team and role
The Expertise and Implementation team will implement the following capabilities for WB:
Steer the tactical vs strategic agenda for ESG solutions, driving the design and implementation requirements for sustainable, future proof ESG processes, governance, reporting and solutions
Represent SSG and the wider Sector organisation in sustainability target setting for WB, balancing our sustainability pioneering ambition and realistic business objectives
Empower business leadership and the broader (SSG) sector organization to make timely, well-informed decisions
Stay abreast of latest development in the ESG regulatory space (and direct or indirect implications on financial institutions)
Key responsibilities
To be successful it is imperative that you will not be “managing the process” from the sidelines; you and your team will work closely with and in the delivery organization, facilitate conflict and impediment resolution and lead deep dives on content topics that might hamper the successful delivery of our strategic objectives.
As the Head of Expertise and Implementation team you are a linking pin and you actively share best practices across the organization. You will work directly with the other members of WB Tech, Global sustainability, SSG Sector teams, ESG Integrated Risk, WB and group Finance
You proactively shape and drive strategic initiatives, anticipating issues and providing quantitatively backed up sustainability solutions
You guide and coach various stakeholders by steering on facts, thorough analysis, business analysis and applying latest scientific methodology
You create fresh and relevant new insights into our clients’ sustainability progress with the aim to support business generation and client engagement
You act as a delegated business sponsor for all initiatives contributing to our strategic objectives
You represent the Sector Coverage organisation and SSG in a number of platforms and committees which could include: WB Sustainability Steerco, ESG Risk Committee, Terra (Technical Board / Steerco), ESG design and delivery boards
You coach, develop and steer your team members
The required skills we ask
Strategic planning & implementation: Proven experience in developing commercial strategies to achieve climate & nature goals as well as translating those strategies into effective end-to-end processes & tools
Risk management: Expertise in ESG related risk drivers, transmission challenges & their effect on the different risk categories, plus practical experience in developing risk strategies and risk models to manage ESG related risk drivers based on data
Deep expertise: Broad understanding of the application of climate science to our clients business models & transitioning of the real economy
Balances stakeholders: effective communicator and highly experienced in complex stakeholder management balancing different commercial and risk needs
Dilemma management & decision quality: Ability to balance strategic direction in a changing external environment
Values: Strong commitment to ING’s Orange Code values and behaviours, ING’s Global Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging strategy but especially the sustainability strategy
Builds effective teams & builds rapport: Leadership, track record of managing international teams in a complex matrix organization
Your required experience
We are looking for someone who can help further professionalising the implementation of our sustainability strategy into the business.
Education: University / Post Graduate in finance, economics, sustainability or engineering
Work: Overall 10+ years work experience. Someone who has been active in the financial industry with deep & practical experience in ESG principles, sustainability frameworks and industry standards as well as regulation. In addition, deep knowledge about climate & nature science, the relevant climate scenarios and the climate change mitigation challenges and nature dependencies of relevant sectors
Managerial Experience: Experience of planning, managing and organizing resources within short / medium timescales to deal with both the day-to-day challenges and the development and implementation of our longer-term sustainability strategy
