The Lead Engineer (Cables and Accessories) role sits within Engineering Design and Standards in the Process and Technology Department.
As a Lead Engineer your focus will be to provide SPEN’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) licenses with technical support and steer outputs through to senior management, peers and other operational units for your area of your specialism. You will lead the development and implementation of equipment specifications for cables and accessories to ensure legal & licence compliance.
What you’ll be doing
- Perform all duties with a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality and environmental matters.
- Support, develop and implement policies and strategies, in accordance with best practice to ensure effective management of the asset base consistent with legal & licence requirements.
- Lead the development of engineering strategies, including equipment specifications, cable/plant assessment and approvals and contract engineering with the full engagement and consultation of relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain an awareness of advances in technology, equipment and best practice and steer sustainable, innovative solutions across the Iberdrola Group.
- Participate and Lead, as required, in Iberdrola global working groups such as INS and best practice forums.
- Actively engage with T&D cable/accessories & equipment suppliers through engineering specification development, tendering processes and the approval of system assets.
- Lead communication with wider business stakeholders on the introduction of new plant and processes.
- Represent SPEN interests at external national and industry bodies such as ENA, National Grid, BSI, CIGRE and the IET.
What you’ll bring
The candidate should ideally have experience gained through an operational, technical and commercial engineering role combined with detailed knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- Cables and accessories at all voltage levels across T&D.
- Network design philosophy & policy.
- T&D Network operations, Safety Rules and equipment standards & specifications.
- T&D Failure Investigation and reporting.
- Asset management techniques, practices & policy.
- Legal & licence obligations and conditions.
- Purchasing policy & legal obligations.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical & non-technical audiences, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to devise solutions to complex problems & challenges.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication & negotiation skills
Minimum Criteria
- Degree/HND/HNC (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline supported by experience in an operational, technical or commercial engineering role.
- Knowledge of health & safety requirements and compliance.
- Computer literacy – e.g. Microsoft Office suite, SAP.
