Senior Mechanical Project Engineer

As Senior Mechanical Project Engineer within the Operations Engineering team of Global Services, you will focus on providing engineering support to ScottishPower Renewables and Iberdrola Renewables Global Business concerning mechanical issues of structural equipment in our operational Wind Turbines.
Acting as a Wind Turbine Technical Expert within a team of Engineers responsible for the resolution of complex technical issues affecting the global generation fleet (>14,000MW), you will help deliver technical expertise and provide mechanical engineering advice to the business, assisting the Head of the Mechanical team in the management of technical problems and solutions.
This role will require you to develop key relationships with stakeholders including UK and Global Onshore and Offshore businesses.
Responsibilities
Proactively leading the development and implementation of appropriate solutions for mechanically orientated technical issues impacting on Generation, to improve production efficiency and minimise technical risk of reduced production. You will lead root cause analysis investigations for Wind Turbine structural component failures (Blades, Towers, Bolted Joints) and help develop solutions.
Assisting in running life extension analyses to make technical assessments of the feasibility of extending the life of operating sites, you will be required to make recommendations to Global business units on any changes to maintenance or major technical interventions required to life extend an asset.
Providing mechanical engineering support to the Operations and Development Business Units globally, you will technically support teams during commercial negotiations with manufacturers regarding warranties and new development projects. Further, you will perform technical assessments of potential Wind Turbines including detailed technical due diligences of all mechanical structural components for blades, towers and frames.
Leading engagement on behalf of Iberdrola Renewables with Wind Turbine manufacturers you will ensure global asset technical risks are addressed and production is optimised. You will work on technical analyses of design modifications proposed by equipment manufacturers and provide technical recommendations.
What you’ll bring
Educated to Degree, HNC or HND level in Mechanical Engineering (or other applicable engineering degree), you will be able to communicate written and verbally in English at language level C2 level or higher.
With experience of the Renewables / Power Generation industry, you will possess extensive technical and practical knowledge of Wind Turbine technologies, particularly in structural components (blades, towers and bolted assemblies).
With a background in mechanical engineering you will also have an understanding of common issues associated with mechanical structures and with the means on how to evaluate them.
Possessing knowledge of industry standards and regulations, you will hold the ability to investigate component failures, analyse technical problems and provide creative solutions when required.
