What You Will Achieve
You will be part of a dynamic team of experts who form Pfizer’s Environment, Health & Safety division. Due to the importance of this team for Pfizer’s employees and patients, the organization relies heavily on its team members’ timely actions and decision-making ability.
You will be responsible for activities related to interpreting, recommending and compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations/company policies. You will also assist in planning the changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements. You will support the team in preparing contracts for licensed hazardous and radioactive waste disposal firms, monitoring waste handling and organizing spill-control teams. Your knowledge base will help you in updating environmental and spill-control manuals and procedures.

How You Will Achieve It
This position is accountable for administering comprehensive Environmental programs to facilitate Pfizer compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and Pfizer guidelines addressing environmental requirements and sustainability efforts. The individual will oversee all site permitting, reporting, and recordkeeping to federal, state, local, and Pfizer agencies, including the following program areas: industrial air emissions including refrigerant management, Emergency Planning & Community Right-to Know (EPCRA), hazardous & non-hazardous waste management, aboveground storage tanks, industrial wastewater, industrial stormwater, and toxic substances. This role will manage the annual waste budget and associated invoicing and will be supportive in all capital projects targeting environmental sustainability/impact reduction initiatives. The individual will be responsible for day-to-day site waste management process, waste tracking /disposal, signatory on waste shipment manifests, recordkeeping, and management of on-site 3rd party waste contractors. The role will manage the site safety data sheet repository (chemical inventory) and review new chemical products for environmental impacts and compliance requirements. Additionally, the role will support site programs and initiatives around dangerous goods, controlled substances, safe storage of materials, zero landfill, and additional programs as required. The individual in this role must be able to analyze existing and planned products, processes, equipment, facilities, and programs to develop and implement proactive strategies to minimize environmental impacts and business interruption. They will also provide general EHS guidance to operations, conduct EHS-related training to colleagues or contractors on an as needed basis, and review/update/approve all environmental related documents and standard operating procedures (SOPs) within the site, and review/approve required documents from other departments as needed.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead all applicable Environmental related tasks, initiatives, training, and services that adhere to Pfizer Global EHS Standards, state and federal regulatory compliance. This includes but is not limited to generating and submitting all applicable reports both internal to Pfizer and external to applicable state, local and federal agencies.
- Provide input to developing and modifying waste and wastewater management policies & procedures and apply breadth of knowledge to adapt and improve programs. Verify environmental programs in (e.g. satellite accumulation, chemical storage, refrigerant management, etc.) are compliant. Daily interactions with various departments to monitor and advise on compliance initiatives as directed.
- Monitor adherence for compliance with federal (EPA, OSHA, DOT), state (KDHE), local (City of McPherson) environmental and related regulations. Directly involved with training others and reinforcing appropriate behaviors.
- Track throughputs associated with site sustainability programs, develop targets for environmental impact reduction and create reports of performance against targets.
- Coordinate with site Engineering and maintain records/trending necessary for sustainability programs and Pfizer Global governance.
- Use expertise to support review and approval of documents required by law for management and shipment of regulated waste (e.g., manifests, land disposal restrictions, inspections).
- Performs site inspections (e.g., Spill Prevention, Stormwater Pollution Prevention, engine opacity monitoring, etc.) and as required, recommends, monitors, and implements corrective and preventive activity.
- Environmental Program SME’s during regulatory inspections and is responsible for implementation of appropriate follow-up actions.
- Aid in the deployment and execution of any corrective and preventative actions related to EHS.
- May provide 24-hour response to assist in the resolution of emergency or spill response incidents.
- Understands and complies with company practices and policies in general and maintains working knowledge of the applicable Pfizer requirements (e.g. EHS Management Systems, Global EHS Standards, Recommended Practices, etc.)
- Maintains a knowledge of the capital project system and participate on project teams as directed.
- Maintains a knowledge and understanding of current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) as they relate to Pfizer Operations.
- Leads site safety teams as required and supports environmental initiatives.
- Supports efforts/initiatives for the Site EHS Team.
- Performs other tasks as directed by EHS Director/Sr. EHS Manager.
Qualifications
Must-Have
- Applicant must have a High School Diploma (or Equivalent) and 8 years of relevant experience OR an associate's degree with 6 years of experience OR a bachelor's with at least 3 years of experience OR Masters with more than 1 year of experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in waste and wastewater characterization, interpreting of data, and environmental compliance reporting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, creativity in problem solving and flexibility.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be comfortable making presentations to groups and representing the department/facility externally.
- Good math skills required.

- Knowledge of environmental health and safety management systems (ISO 14001/45001).
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely exposed to general laboratory and/or manufacturing areas; work near moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals; noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Must be able to walk, climb stairs and ladders, and lift and carry up to 25 pounds for limited distances.
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to support 24/7 operations and support 2nd and 3rd shift operations on as needed basis.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $78 000,00 to $130 000,00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 10,0% of the base salary.
