Job Description
EH&S Manager
Summary:
Directs the ARP NA safety management system for the Plant. Is a key resource and drives the safety, fire, environmental, industrial hygiene, construction, training, and security elements of the Amcor Leadership Framework. Works with and supports and enforces plant management in developing, implementing and monitoring the plant’s overall safety system and initiatives.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conducts periodic safety-related audits/inspections / analysis to ensure employee safety and regulatory compliance, prepares action plans, and works with appropriate individuals to ensure successful completion.
- Collects data analyzes trends, gaps, etc. and makes recommendations for the plant for EHS initiatives.
- Ensures Job Safety Analyses and Risk Assessments on all key areas in the plant are conducted and reviewed regularly.
- Collaborates with appropriate department personnel to resolve identified hazards.
- Reviews incident investigation reports. Works with appropriate plant staff to ensure investigation is complete and root cause has been established. Enters final report into the corporate incident database.
- Assists in monitoring contractors and construction activities to ensure safe work practices are being followed.
- Ensures the monthly plant safety committee meetings happen regularly and add value to plant operations by bringing coworkers into safety leadership for the facility.
- Presents safety-related information both internally and externally using meetings, message boards, and other written / verbal communication methods as appropriate.
- Identify or develop and implement programs to encourage, reward and recognize employee safe behavior, involvement, and commitment toward plant safety. Monitors the corporate and/or plant safety incentive programs.
- Manages all personal protective equipment programs, to include, but not limited to safety shoes, safety prescription glasses, gloves, etc. Works with appropriate vendor to manage usage and distribution.
- Maintains and updates pertinent information in Material Safety Data Sheet electronic system.
- Acts as the primary point of contact during internal and external safety, fire and environmental audits, including OSHA inspections to ensure successful completion of audit.
- Maintains the OSHA 300 log and posts, annually, as required.
- Coordinates onsite efforts with W/C carrier and Human Resources Manager.
- Develops annual safety budget. Monitors spending to meet or exceed spending goals.
- Works closely with the respective Regional Safety Manager and Corporate Safety Manager to ensure alignment of safety programs and timely delivery.
- Responsible for internal (employees) and external (contractors, visitors, etc.) safety training. Identifies training requirements using regulatory guidelines and needs assessments.
- Designs, develops, implements and presents training in-house or identifies and contracts with external training resources. Training to include forklift, LOTO, Arc Flash, First Aid, CPR, EAD, First Responder. etc.
- Monitors participation of plant personnel with computer-based safety training, safety observations, management audits, etc. Partners with Human Resources Manager to address non-compliance.
- Ensures execution of Safety Contract review as deemed necessary by the Plant Manager.
- Schedules the on-site hearing test on an annual basis with the assistance of the HR Manager.
- Ensure that appropriate safety and ergonomic processes and methods are being utilized.
- Identify needs relating to improvements in safety/ergonomics and assist in developing and implementing solutions to these issues.
- Establish metrics to monitor financial savings as compared to established goals and targets.
- Be member of the plant leadership team and participate in and support all training, meetings and social events.
- Any other activity as required to ensure organizational success.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in EH&S, Industrial Safety, or related field
- Three plus years experience in the safety or continuous improvement field in a manufacturing environment with increasing responsibility, preferably in the plastics industry.
- Experience in ergonomic analysis and application
- Experience working with construction / contractors in a manufacturing environment
- Possess professional written / verbal communication skills to include technical reports and small / large group presentations.
- Ability to effectively communicate with plant and corporate personnel
- Certifications: Prefer Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Strong change management skills to include the practical implementation of Lean Manufacturing Principles and Concepts.
- Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
- Strong leadership, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to organize and plan use of time and people effectively and efficiently.
