The Environmental Specialist will ensure environmental compliance matters, including periodic inspections, sampling, and reporting, are completed according to schedule. Support the EHS Manager on environmental health & safety matters. Identify training needs and deliver to department employees. Conduct and maintain reporting as needed for the PLZ Team.
Key Responsibility:
- Ensure compliance with Federal, State, Local environmental laws, regulations and PLZ procedures.
- Manage Clean Air Act (CAA) Title V, new source review, and/or minor source permit compliance, including emissions reporting and compliance documentation.
- Assist site EHS Managers with the Clean Water Act (CWA) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) water permits (Industrial and Stormwater), compliance, training, and reporting.
- Assist site EHS Managers with Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan management and training.
- Assist site EHS Manager with Resource Recovery and Conservation Act (RCRA) and chemical container management program. Develop RCRA training, guidance documents and procedures as necessary.
- Assist site EHS Managers with Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know (EPCRA) data collection and filing EPCRA 311/312 (Tier II) and EPCRA 313 (Toxic Release Inventory) reports. Develop EPCRA training, guidance documents and procedures as necessary.
- Assist site EHS Manager with air permit recordkeeping and reporting.
- Assist site EHS Manager with maintaining a chemical inventory.
- Act as resource for RMP program compliance.
- Encourage and promote good environmental practices.
- Support continuous improvement on all aspects of environmental health & safety.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with focus in environmental engineering (preferred), environmental science or environmental, health and safety.
- Minimum of 3 years related experience in an environmental compliance capacity in an industrial environment preferably within process manufacturing, petrochemical or chemical manufacturing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, receive, and provide clear instructions.
- Must possess the ability to make independent contributions, provide leadership and drive change.
- Must be computer literate and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs and other software such as: WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, TEAMS, ADOBE products
- SAP proficiency is strongly desired.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- This position is responsible for managing the chemical handler assigned to the chemical storage and disposal area.
Work environment:
- Fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Work in a production area with fast-moving equipment, moderate to high noise levels, and temperature changes.
- Perform occasional lifting, bending, grasping, reaching, pulling, climbing, and computer use as needed.
The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000 / year.
