An opportunity has arisen for a Project Engineer – Battery Test to join the Battery Systems department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment.
About the role
The purpose of this role is to support Fortescue Zero battery systems team with battery performance test activity, working in a fast-paced environment across multiple projects. This may include cell, module & pack level test activity.
What you will do
- Managing the delivery of electro/thermal battery performance test activity:
- EoL and DV test activity, characterisation work & proving out customer requirements
- Authoring test procedure documents on time for scheduled DVP activity
- Working closely with internal & external test house facilities to co-ordinate the delivery of tests
- This includes in person support of test setup; working closely with the test facility to ensure procedures are followed as intended & being available to resolve issues as they occur
- Taking ownership of multiple test activities, spanning different projects & test facility locations
- Developing instrumentation plans to ensure DV requirements can be validated
- Working alongside other engineering teams to feedback on status of planned & upcoming test activity
- Supporting with data analysis, including use of automated scripts to generate results reports
- Collating test data/logs and maintaining project trackers
- Identifying & escalating issues to key stakeholders
- Capturing lessons learnt and ensuring these are implemented on other current and future projects
- Supporting DFMEA & 8D route cause investigations related to testing
- Supporting new project DVP definition
- Identifying limitations with existing procedures / processes and looking for continuous improvement opportunities
- Working in-line with Fortescue Zero HaV safe working procedures
- Representing Fortescue Zero at external test house locations
- Working with HV batteries using CAN/Ethernet based tools, to diagnose issues & support root cause investigation
About you
- A relevant qualification in Electrical, Chemical or Systems Engineering
- Significant work experience performance testing battery systems across cell, module & pack level activities
- Experience in setting up & supporting battery test activity
- Significant experience in data analysis using tools such as MATLAB, CANalyser, Atlas, Concerto or equivalent
- Experience diagnosing issues during running of test activity & implementing solutions
- Familiarity in HV battery systems & knowledge of key battery technologies
- Hands on engineering approach
- Strong background in problem solving
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Preferably UK drivers license for supporting test activity at multiple locations
