About the role
An opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Engineer – Electrical and Battery Systems to join the Electrical department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment. This role provides the individual with a wide-ranging experience of electrical engineering. The role will provide the graduate with 6-month rotations within a selection of electrical, mechanical and integration departments such as: Electrical Systems, Controls & Software, Battery Systems, Product Safety, Requirements & Validation, and Mechanical Design.
After 2 years of rotations, progression will be offered into a permanent role within one of these departments. The role will suit individuals with a passion for electrification or other cutting-edge engineering and seeking a strong team-environment, within a high-paced, exciting culture. You will work on projects from hyper-cars and battery electric locomotives, to mining haulage trucks. This is a highly engaging role, pushing the boundaries of vehicle performance and electrification into projects across multiple engineering sectors.
What you will do
The work we do within Fortescue Zero is varied and exciting, with plenty of opportunities to expand your knowledge and technical skills. Depending on your pathway through the graduate scheme, you may be involved in activities such as:
- Preparing requirements documentation at vehicle, system, and component level.
- Working with suppliers delivering electrical components, software, or systems artefacts to a project.
- Assisting with the build and fault-finding of products.
- Generating system architecture diagrams and circuit drawings to support electrical design activity.
- Assisting in the definition, build and operation of system and component test rigs. – for which on the job training will be given.
- Developing battery systems for integration into vehicles across the automotive, heavy mining equipment, and other areas.
- Supporting research into how Fortescue Zero can improve its designs for the future.
- Supporting virtual and physical builds for components and vehicles.
- Developing safety arguments for our products and presenting the outcomes to internal and external stakeholders.
- Preparing and presenting reports to internal and external audiences.
- Supporting technical and project reviews with the customer, representing Fortescue Zero, as required.
- Supporting meetings with clients, suppliers, and all other departments within Fortescue Zero.
- Understanding and working to Fortescue Zero, Customer, Industry and Legislative standards.
About you
Essential skills for this role include:
- An Engineering qualification (e.g. degree) in electrical / electronics, software engineering, automotive, aerospace or related subjects.
- Demonstrable experience of electrical design, system engineering, software engineering or development.
- Team Player with a thirst for learning.
- The ability to work flexibly to strict deadlines.
Highly desirable skills for this role are:
- Good working knowledge of proprietary PC software e.g.MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- A keen interest in all types of vehicles at a conceptual and practical level.
- An understanding of energy storage systems.
