Job Title: Solar Engineer

Hire Resolve is seeking a skilled Solar Engineer to join our client’s team in Johannesburg. This is an exciting opportunity to work in the growing solar energy industry, contributing to innovative and sustainable projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Solar Installation Design
- Design solar PV systems based on client needs, site specifications, and energy requirements, ensuring optimal performance and cost efficiency.
- Develop detailed installation layouts for residential, commercial, and agricultural projects, considering structural, electrical, and aesthetic requirements.
Product and System Selection
- Select appropriate solar components (inverters, panels, batteries, etc.) based on technical and site-specific needs.
- Prepare design documentation, including electrical schematics, system diagrams, and layout plans, ensuring clarity for installation teams.
Site Assessments and Visits
- Conduct on-site inspections and assessments to evaluate project feasibility, site-specific technical requirements, and identify potential challenges.
- Provide technical input to installation teams and project managers during site visits, ensuring designs are implementable on-site.
Commissioning on Site and Remotely
- Oversee and conduct the commissioning of solar systems both on-site and remotely, ensuring full functionality and performance compliance with specifications.
- Perform system testing and validation during commissioning to ensure proper operation.
Fault Finding and Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve faults in solar PV systems, including issues related to inverters, wiring, solar panels, and battery systems.
- Provide on-the-ground and remote support for troubleshooting, minimizing downtime for clients.
Client Interaction and Product Communication
- Present design concepts to clients, providing technical explanations of solar system designs and product specifications.
- Work closely with the sales team to communicate the benefits and features of proposed solar systems during client consultations.
Compliance and Standards
- Ensure all designs comply with local regulations, electrical codes, and industry best practices.
- Stay informed on advancements in solar technologies, incorporating innovative solutions to enhance design efficiency and system performance.
Collaboration with Project Teams
- Collaborate with operations and installation teams to ensure proper implementation of designs during installations.
- Provide on-the-ground support during installations, troubleshooting design-related issues and ensuring alignment between design and execution.
Continuous Improvement
- Review and refine design processes to enhance system performance, installation efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Conduct post-installation reviews to assess system performance and address design-related issues, applying lessons learned to future projects.
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation for all solar designs, including as-built drawings and system performance assessments.
- Maintain an organised archive of design documents, drawings, and revisions for quality control and future reference.
Training and Mentorship
- Provide training to installation teams on interpreting design layouts, electrical schematics, and technical specifications.
- Stay updated on new design tools and software to improve the design process and efficiency.
Innovation and Development
- Explore and recommend the latest solar products, tools, and technologies to keep the company competitive and innovative.
- Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency and installation quality through research and development.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in solar design software (e.g., PV*SOL, Helioscope) is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in solar PV system design, installations, and commissioning.
- Proven experience in designing both residential and commercial solar systems.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, PV*SOL, Helioscope).
- Strong understanding of solar PV system components and electrical design principles.
- Experience in fault finding and troubleshooting solar PV systems.
- Knowledge of local electrical codes and industry regulations.
Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel for site assessments.
