Regional Technology and Engineering MED represents the corporate Technology & Operations (VTO) organization regional business unit Mediterranean (MED). The position is open in the Frontend Engineering & Technology team in the Southeast European sub-region, providing onshore solutions for Southeast European countries. Our main responsibilities centre around technical contracting, technical value engineering, customization, and execution, regional product market strategy, and product integrity management. The role of the Siting Solutions Engineer is to be responsible for turbine siting and project optimization, representing Vestas at relevant industry conferences or working groups, and establishing and growing strategic relationships with engineering counterparts within Vestas' key customers and influential third-party consultants.
Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities as Siting Solutions Specialist will be to act as an outward-focused technical customer advisor, ensuring we present fully optimized wind power plant layouts and wind turbine configurations on a bid or project request, as well as reviewing and optimizing customer proposed layouts. After an intensive onboarding, you will be assigned to Vestas' siting activities in Southeast European countries and closely collaborating with colleagues from our Global Siting Center.
- Develop project-specific siting technical solutions to maximize project value while solidly managing technical risks
- Utilize knowledge of Vestas turbines and regional wind conditions to provide expertise and support to internal and external stakeholders
- Identify market requirements and trends to provide feedback towards the product development team and to promote Vestas' products & solutions within the owned markets
- Enable efficient interfaces between Sales, Technical Functions, and external stakeholders
- Ensure knowledge sharing and collaboration across regional and global siting teams through coaching, mentoring, and open feedback
- Defend Vestas siting results and support customers' efforts to finance Vestas' turbines with third-party consultants
- Guide market-specific internal improvement projects, develop and coordinate the continuous improvement of tools and processes, and collaborate on projects utilizing siting data to create value
Qualifications
- As a minimum, a bachelor's degree in science or engineering (Mathematics, Physics, Environmental Science, Meteorology, Physics, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Wind Power). Also, other fields are to be considered together with the candidate's experience
- Knowledge of statistics and mechanical load principles is required, while familiarity with meteorology, wind resource assessment, and IEC 61400 standards is beneficial
- Experience with WindPro and WAsP is beneficial, as is experience with OpenWind, CFD, or Mesoscale modelling for wind power applications
- Additional coding skills (e.g., Python or MatLab) are beneficial
- Besides all technical aspects, you'll need to have full customer service awareness; experience supporting commercial negotiations would also be ideal
- Solid ability to solve problems analytically and methodically
- Solution-oriented with a solid focus on simplicity
Competencies
- Minimum of 5 years of experience completing energy and suitability analysis for industrial-scale wind power plants, including experience in a sales support role
- Solid technical skills with a problem-solving attitude and strong analytical skills
- Fluency in Romanian and English (spoken and written) is necessary; knowing additional Eastern European languages would be ideal
- Ability to work in a time-sensitive setting and organize priorities in a technical, sales-oriented environment, where providing high-quality assessments and discussing them with different stakeholders is required daily (comprehensive oral and written communication skills in both Romanian and English)
- Highly organized and able to prioritize daily work in a fast-moving environment.
- Highly motivated, autonomous, who can work with little supervision, skilled at stakeholder management (internal and external stakeholders)
- Ability to be innovative and creative with a result-oriented, customer-focused mindset who can work with little supervision and with an international team
